Just bought a new B2601 and need to buy a shredder cutter. Wanted to ask here first before buying. I will be mowing about 5acres of natural bermuda. Will the 5ft. shredder be too much for the B2601 to haul around and have strong PTO response? Dealer has the LandPride but I am open to other brands if you have had good success and price is comparable.

As I recall there is a rough rule to follow , that was 5 HP per foot of attachment
So I would think a 60 inch cutter would work. Your B 2601 should have no trouble lifting it and moving it around.

i have a 21 hp ZTR 48" for the 2 acres around the house and barn. They make a lot of 60" ZTR's with 21 hp so you should have no problem with your B2601.

Follow the recommendations in your Owner's manual vis-à-vis both width and weight.

As always, when sizing a mower, the required HP depends upon what you plan to mow and how quickly you plan to do so.

We do not have Bermuda grass here but I believe that it is thick and heavy. When it comes to mowing, thick and heavy grass requires MUCH more HP than tall weeds.

I would want every bit of 25 PTO HP for a 5' cutter. More is better. Not saying that you cannot pull a 5' cutter with 19.5 PTO HP but you should expect to slow down significantly in heavy grass.

You may want to look into flail mowers instead of a shredder. You won’t get the annoying windrows. Or possibly a rear finish mower would work better if it really is just grass.
