I’m re-installing a rebuilt steering cylinder in my 4310. When I removed it a large flat washer fell off the part connected to the pitman arm. I wondered if anyone could tell me if there should be washers above and below that connection? Or is there just one washer? The service manual doesn’t mention or show any washer. I’ve attached a picture of it.

I had the unfortunate experience of the first professional rebuild failing after 5 hours. Apparently a “new” gasket was dry rotted. I lost a lot of new hydraulic fluid. Hopefully this one will be ok.

Also, as others here have mentioned the service manual instructions for removal are overkill. The bumper doesn’t have to be removed. The radiator can simply be raised up without removing the hoses. That allows enough clearance to remove the piston. it is tight. The hardest part was drilling out the corroded bolts below the battery tray. Not the best design.

I don’t know the answer to your question but you can look at Messicks or KubotaUSA dot com for illustrated parts lists. I think you are looking at a L4310 and here is a picture from the Kubota website for the L4310. This may not be the correct model or what you’re asking for but I think you can get the answer.

It sounds like the washer you're referring to is likely the only one needed in that connection. The service manual not mentioning it could be an oversight, but it's usually just one washer between the pitman arm and the other parts. It’s always a good idea to check with a dealer or parts supplier to confirm, though, especially if you're unsure about the setup.

Sorry to hear about the rebuild issue—that dry-rotted gasket can definitely cause problems! Hopefully, the new one will hold up better. I also agree, some of those manual instructions seem unnecessarily complicated. Glad you managed to work around the bumper and radiator!
