Greeting all,

I have a 2018 M5660 with a LA 1154 loader. The dealer installed a 3rd function control for a grapple. It has been great and I have had zero problems with it until this weekend when the top button stopped working. the top button on the joystick closes the grapple. The bottom one opens it. It will open, but won't close.

I called the service department and they said if it didn't act like it wanted to close and the hydraulics didn't make any noise it was probably electrical. I checked the buttons with an ohm meter and they seem to be working fine. I called again and asked if there was a fuse I could check and they said it might be in the relay.

They didn't have a schematic for the relay and with my very limited knowledge I have no Idea how to trouble shoot it. I was resigned to take it in to the dealer when they told me it would be 2-3 weeks minimum before they could look at it. To add insult to injury, that clock doesn't even start till I leave it with them as they don't make appointments.

If I had the wiring diagram/schematic I have enough smart friends that could probably figure it out. Should I just buy a new wiring harness and hope that is where the problem is?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!!!

If your 3rd function valve is the same as mine you will have a pair of wires ending in a plug (about 6" of wires) coming off of each solenoid. The plugs are the same. They go to the switches on the handle.

You may want to try unplugging/cleaning/re connecting them first. If that doesn't work, swap them. If only the same button works (which will now do the opposite thing) it's probably the buttons/connector. If only the other button works it's probably the solenoid that one is attached to or a hydraulic line issue related to what's on that solenoid.

Update. After swapping the connections like Motronic recommended, I came to a plug that was not fully connected. Plugged it in and all is working as it should. Thanks

Depending on the brand of 3rd function valve they installed, getting information about parts can be easy or difficult. If it is a Land Pride unit, you can access all the parts pictures and part numbers on the Land Pride website. I would suggest that you print all the information off of their website, and should you ever need parts, you will have the correct part numbers to order them from the dealer. I have gone to the Messick website site, and have printed all of the parts pages for all the "accessory" items that are on my tractor, and have created my tractors own parts book. Unless there is a mistake in the parts pages, I know exactly what to order, and there is no question of getting a wrong part.
