Hi all, I have a 2011 RTV500 that I'm struggling to get figured out. It will start, run a bit, then stutter, then stall. It happens over and over until its warmed up. Then it will idle but falls on its face as soon as I give it throttle. I started by unplugging the hose on the Intake air pressure sensor and it instantly ran pretty good ( revved, idled and drove) although a little rich. I tested it according to the manual and it did not pass. I bought a new one and put it on with a smile, then started it up only to have the exact same issue. I evidently did not test it correctly because now it tests good. I have checked the ECU Connector Voltage, Wiring Harness of Water Temperature Sensor, Water Temperature Sensor, Injector, Intake Air Pressure Sensor, Air Temperature Sensor, Fuel Pump, Crank Sensor and they all pass according to the manual. I have done all I know to do to the fuel system besides throwing parts at it, which I hate doing. I see several guys with similar issues but none that I have found with a fix. Please throw some suggestions my way. I also put new plugs in it.

Could you have a worn through wire on your harness? If it's just a voltage check it could pass but is possibly grounding out somewhere?

It sounds like something with that sensor or the wiring... Or possibly something is lodged in the other end of the hose? I'll have to find my service manual to see if it has any troubleshooting thoughts...

All the wires check out, nothing grounded. The hose is not plugged or split. I just washed the engine off and when it cools down I'm going to check the valve lash.

When you swapped the sensor, was it an OEM?Any chance of a plugged crankcase vent somewhere?

Curious that when you uncorked that sensor it started to run better for you.

No restrictions in the air intake tract? Any difference if you ran it with the air filter out and the cover unlatched? Is your muffler spark arrestor clear?

Just spitballing ideas that are free to check....

OEM sensor
With the sensor unhooked it richens it up and it runs better, but it's too rich.
With the air filter out and sensor hooked up, it runs worse, too lean.
Intake clear as far as I can tell.
The exhaust is leaking I think at the head connection. Its kind of buried and can't tell for sure. It doesn't appear to be plugged. I removed the arrestor.
I pulled the fuel pump and changed the filter.
I drained the fuel and replaced with new.
I checked the spray pattern on the injector, looks normal.
I hooked my Mityvac handpump to the intake port and used it for a gauge, it is pulling 9-10 PSI vacuum.
Do you know how this system works without a throttle position sensor? Every other machine that I've work on has a TPS if it injected.

That's all for today.
Thanks Clutch for giving me some things to try. I try to stay open minded but tunnel vision takes control way too often.

Thanks Clutch,
No lights come on, only when I unplug a sensor.
I have the manual but missed the section on fuel injection control.
I tried unhooking each sensor while it was running and every one made a change in the way it ran. I think I'm down to replacing the ECM. I found a good used one on ebay. I'll post what the outcome is.

Didn't realize you had the manual, but probably should have when you said you tested the sensor....

Wasn't sure if you also verified the intake air temp sensor was good? That would play with the air density calculation that the ECU is making and could make it run rich or lean I guess.....

Please do post back, not great that it's so difficult to trouble shoot these little guys

Intake air sensor tested good also. I hate to buy the ECM because so many times its not it. I don't know where else to go though. I will post one way or the other. So many posts end without a conclusion and it drives me crazy!
