Just got a year 2000 3710. It's mine to use if I can fix it. All I know is that it was turning over, and there was water in the oil filter. Besides the possibility of a bad head leaking water in the crankcase, is there anything else to look for with this model? Wish I knew more, but as is the case so often the damn thing is stuck far, far away from parts stores and my shop... Any advice general or specific would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not familiar with the model but was wondering if it would be feasable to trailer it to your shop to work on? Water in oil is usually not a fix that is best done in the field! If it's way back in the woods perhaps you can use a neighbors tractor to pull it out and on to a trailer.

Drain the oil, change the filter, fill it with new oil and put a new filter on. Run it, see if the oil gets more water in it. Check the coolant, is there any oil in it? You could pressure test the cooling system to see if it leaks down. Was the tractor stored outside? Is it rain or condensation in it? The smaller engines have problems with cracked heads if the engine is overheated.
