Newbie here. I finally found the fluid level gauge. It appears to be all the way full. It also appears viscous, like a really light honey color. I think I expected tranny fluid to be pretty clear. Any idea what I'm looking at?

The fluid in the transmission is light honey to clear color so yours sounds normal color. They tend to darken as the age.

There is a vent but not a see through thing so not sure what you’re asking about that for.

Sight gauge tractor transmissions are often overfilled since the fluid is hard to see.

And color has little (if anything) to do with viscosity.

Thank you Russel. The sight gauge seems to be full to the top, so I didn't know if it was "too" full, and would need to be drained abit. So I wondered if there was a vent, maybe draining wouldn't be necessary (? or advised ?).

There is a rubber breather tube under the seat - part 150. Good to check it - if missing, rainwater can get in.

There are many people that have posted about over filling the transmission and not seeing the fluid level.

I suggest that you can remove the sight window and then the fluid will drain to the bottom of the window (and probably make a mess)

You need to be sure the tractor is level also when looking at the sight window it doesn’t take much slant to change the level.

If you can slant the tractor on a slope with the sight window on the high side you may be able to see the level
