next door neighbor has what we determined to be a late 1800's early 1900's farmers rock pile (broken period glass bottles in the pile,, he doesn't want it , so yesterday I took out about 7 loader buckets of nice sized quartz,, still about that much or more left, a few rocks to large for wall work.. also a few more finds,, one very nice point and one very clear quartz rock that shows some working marks,, would love to find a point that was made from some of it..

In my neck of the woods, have to pay for an 'archealogical survey' before you can build 1 house or a subdivision. They found couple of supposed arrowheads...now the owner's out almost 50K$ and 2 YEARS behind the proposed build....
Up the road 'they' found a nicely cleaved stone, again 'Indians must have used it to make arrowheads'. I had to comment, yeah, right, that's the rock the farmer hit with his discs a few years ago, bot was he MAD......

Nearly impossible to knap a point from true Quartz. The structure of it doesn't lend itself to that. Even IF you did manage to get something from it, it would break very easily. There are some clear to translucent other materials Agate/Obsidian that can be worked. Plain old window glass is easy to knap into points as is colored bottle glass. Not very strong material but easy to work.
