Just got my new 9960 and am loving it. The cab has a cig lighter and a power outlet. Is the cig out switched? I tried operating a simple car charger in it to no avail. Am I missing something. End up just plugging my phone into the radios USB port. It works fine but might want a 12 volt accessory in the future.

Check for a missing fuse, I've see them where they leave the fuse out for accessories for what ever reason.

Get out the phone charger....most have a small idiot light on it to tell you it is working .............

they are probably both switched if I had to guess, but check the fuse too - ought to be easy enough to test with an ohm meter too.

Most all cars I have ever driven they were switched.....chevys seem to be hot all the time!! Sucks when you forget to turn off the gps !!!:D:eek::)

Some power points have a selectable power source, constant or with key, depending where fuse is positioned in panel. Failing that, maybe its unplugged.

Cigg lighter sockets and power point sockets are NOT identical! Although if you jiggle a GPS power plug long enough in a Cigg lighter socket, it'll work...The owners manual should mention this.

Tried with tractor off and on. No luck either way. Checked fuse. It was good. Tried two different 12 Vdc chargers. Still no luck. I am stumped. My phone will charge while plugged into the sub port of the radio. So at least I can get juice there.

Starts to sound like a wiring issue---either the wiring itself or a switch-operated solenoid. Trace out the wiring--a good schematic will be beneficial--and see what goes where and what the electrical 'control' (switch, fuse, solenoid) look like.

Before going too far test your male phone power plug in a known good power outlet on another vehicle or power supply. Try unscrewing the tip from the male power connector and checking its internal fuse with a meter.

I've found some of the male power plugs fairly delicate (not the plugs themselves, but the internal wiring and tiny circuit board). Try a different 12-vdc phone charging cord with your device.

A caveat concerning any type 12-vdc power outlet / source / receptacle in any mobile application, powering any electronic device, based on my experience in the amateur radio world: run both hot and ground from any power outlet back to the battery and fuse both lines at the battery. May save some expensive electronics.

Please post back your continuing experiences so we may all learn.
