Need Help replacing the rubber boot on the drive shaft B6200

Hi Guys,

while I am waiting for some parts I have been give my B6200 a good going over. I found that the rubber boot that goes over the drive shaft has split.

I have order a new one how ever I'm not sure on how to get it on. Do I need to pull the front axle off to get to the drive shaft or will it slide out once the pins are removed?

You should not have to remove the axle, just remove the roll pin and slide the shaft out of the u-joint body. Those roll pins can be a bugger, though.
It might not be a bad idea to spray the roll pin down with a pentrating oil, to help free it up. And, while you have the shaft apart, go ahead and check your u-joints.

Good point Hodge I will be defiantly be checking the u joints while I'm in there.

Size is 410 and cost is around $22

I haven't had mine apart yet, because I haven't had any reason to. Do the factory u-joints have zerks like your replacement ones do? If so, I guess I had better check and grease them.

Hodge, my front one did not have grease fittings. I didn't look at the back one. The front one had sealed bearings.

Thanks so much for this [old] thread. My B20 needs a new front driveline u-joint and the franchise price seems out-of-line steep. Thanks to this thread, I could confirm that my part # matches that of your models and, taking a clue from the thread, could [finally] cross-reference Precision, Moog & NAPA u-joints online for 1/3 to 1/2 the cost.

I wouldn't mind seeing a permanent thread identifying alternate sources for off-the-shelf parts on one's tractor.
