This weekend, I added a big rear-view mirror to my L3301HST. It has the M-series deluxe fiberglass canopy. The dealer accidentally installed the M-series canopy instead of the normal L-series one. They liked it so much that they decided to quit ordering the L-series canopies and just use M-series ones in the future.

I used a big "west coast" semi truck side mirror, rotated 90 degrees. It's mounted on 1.5" 80/20 extrusion, hanging from the front canopy mounting bolts. I plan to add some LED work lights on the same extrusion later.

It makes a bit of a head hazard when getting on/off the tractor, but it sure saves a lot of strain on my neck and back. The mirror and all of the hardware came from McMaster-Carr. I also wrote up a blog post, but it doesn't have much more detail than this forum post.

What are differences that make the M series canopy better? Any pics of the tractor with the canopy?

I've noticed that there are a number of posts with whatever model Kubota using a different model canopy. This has been a bit of a dilemma for me as I am in the process of working with a couple of dealers for pricing on a new L3901 but some confusion keeps coming up as to what canopy to price.

I've never actually seen the L-series canopies in person. There are two of them: The less expensive steel one, and the more expensive "deluxe fiberglass" one. I was told that the steel one is noisier, and that it clamps to the top of the roll bar. The fiberglass one reflects less noise, and it is supported on a pair of box tube rails that clamp to the sides of the roll bar.

I asked for the L-series deluxe fiberglass one, and the dealer's shop accidentally grabbed the M-series version of the same style out of stock. I think that the M-series one is simply a little bit larger, to fit the slightly larger M-series chassis. I don't mind a bit more shade! The sales guy told me that when they realized their mistake, they liked the way it looked and decided to give me the larger canopy at the same price. Just between you and me, maybe they didn't have an L-series cap in stock and decided to eat the cost difference to drive the sale to completion quickly? I think we all ended up happy with the results in any case.

I have pictures of the whole tractor here:

If somebody with a regular L-series deluxe fiberglass canopy can take some measurements and share them, then I'll take the measurements of my M-series canopy for comparison. I don't know if the mounting scheme I used here would work as well on the proper L-series canopy. As it is, I need to be careful to avoid banging my head on the mirror when I get on and off the tractor. Adding lights will probably make it worse. Maybe somebody can start with my idea, and refine it further?

Feel free to thread-jack to discuss the canopy variations, as well as lighting and mirror options for L-series tractors with canopies.

Thanks for the reply!

I like the looks of that canopy. You pretty much nailed the equipment I am looking for other than I am going with a L3901 DT.

Wife gave me an open check book to get what we need (tractor and implements) for our property so it comes down to the pricing as a package. Yes, I thought about a loaded M7 but for 5 acres, a little over kill for what we need.

Biggest problem have been the dealers themselves.
