somebody oughta say it: this is the single most frequent thread on the forum. Wouldn't take much searching to find the last 10 discussions...

    tire chain storage

Setting aside whether I actually need them or not, I bought rear tire chains for my LX. I unboxed one and put it on for a test fit and discovered: 1) it looks like I'll have to keep my wheel spacers on for the winter (I usually take them off), else the chains appear they wouldn't clear the...

Oops, lost track of the details.

Is there anyway to stop a leather belt from slipping on an old South Bend lathe

Neat's Foot Oil is the old standby, but when I got my (even older - 1937) SB lathe last year I had to give up on the old leather belt and order a new one. I opted for a modern belt. You can find resources by searching this forum...

    Snow chains…do I need them?

Really? That's about 1/3 the price of what I saw when shopping this week.

    Snow chains…do I need them?

I'm at 7,000' and use my LX with a rear blower and the bucket. I've wanted chains only once - last spring we got 3' of spring cement and I was unable to clear my neighbor's driveway because it was too steep and they had not done any clearing mid-storm - my tractor just couldn't push the blower...

    Homemade Generator

15kW is just about 20hp at 100% efficient conversion. So factor in mechanical and electrical losses and you need maybe 25hp output from the engine?

    Weight on the 3 point.

the amount of load pulling on the top link is a function of the attachment weight and how far out the center of mass lies. So a mower creates a longer moment arm than a ballast box of the same weight, pulling harder on the top link. I don't have a backhoe so I am not sure how the stabilizer...

    Keeping implements under cover

he either has another device with pallet forks, or does quite the shuffle to get down some of those top-shelf implements.

    Lx3310

I chose the 3310 over a 2610 (purchased new in 2022) because I live at 7000' elevation and the turbo is critical to maintain actual power close to the rated power. Similar to retiree, I just always run it above 2200rpm and regens stay infrequent. And almost always wear ear pro because even...

Runs With Scissor's Latest Lathe Projects

wow, lotta cool stuff in there. Had never heard of air-arc gouging before. I wonder how much lathe hp is required turn against that 3.5" diameter bore!

Vertically telescoping intermediate plate for additional height on pallet forks

Geez. The OP comes to the Fabrication forum with an idea and everybody (save one) tries to talk him out of fabricating anything. What a letdown.

    Pallet fork grapple

Thanks. My problem is not so much the guide, it's getting consistent clean cut all the way through the material without the slag reforming on the back side. I suspect it's about getting the current + airflow + torch travel speed balanced correctly; I haven't spent much time really working on...

    Breaking out the "Big Guns"

Man, I haven't seen Kroil since the '70s when my Dad always kept it in the garage. I didn't know it was still available.

Puttin the log arm/ballast to work......

That build is outstanding! I was about half a minute in and joked to myself, "He's basically building the snatch block, I bet he turned the sheaves himself." And then he did. Really impressive design and fab work, sidekick.

    Wheel Spacers…need source advice

I have Bora 3" spacers for my LX3310. I remove them every winter (so the track isn't wider than my snowblower) and re-install them every summer (for working in the hilly forest). They're doing the job just fine.

    Pallet fork grapple

Parts from SendCutSend - 1/2" thick, no way I wanted to cut those myself. Most of the raw material, all from the drops zone at my local steel yard Welding table = sheet of diamond plate on my table saw Light saber action. Someday maybe I'll learn to get cleaner cuts with this thing... Main...

Almost no weld, no drill, cheap solution for front handle bar

Very nice. I've been thinking about something similar, for the same reason - pulling on that steering wheel all the time feels like pulling on a slot machine that one day is gonna come up lemons.

    Pallet fork grapple

With the snow finally finished (fingers crossed), I got to put on my winter fab project: the one-armed pallet fork grapple. I saw one for sale by a Canadian vendor, but it was pricey and I like makin' stuff. Actuating it here with the tractor at idle, obv. it moves a lot faster when the revs...
