Rebuilt snowmobiles, never a diesel so I might be out of my lane here but I think the problem came from the WD40 washing everything, grease included, into the piston ring landings. Bunch of grease, shavings, gook etc started cooking off in the ring areas and ended up on the cylinder walls...

Thank you. That was my thinking as well. I looked up on this site https://www.hydraulicsdirect.com/Fitting-Thread-Chart-s/1934.htm and thought maybe what I had looked like "JIC 37° Flare (SAE J514)" in 3/8. Or possibly "Japanese Industrial Standard JIS 300 Flare" in 1/4

Thank you, that is helpful. The next one I opened had the center hole not centered. Is that ok to use?

Supplier is saying they looked at this pic and think both ends are correct, 1/4npt (one is supposed to be swivel which it is). Is that so? Thanks in advance
