    M7040 Expansion Valve Replacement

so if probe were broken, compressor wouldn't start?

    M7040 Expansion Valve Replacement

may have identified problem. When I took out the evaporator a wire fell out. Looking at it, it's a probe that fits in the fins of the evap, called a "heat sensing tube" in the shop manual and a "thermistor" in the parts manual, it unplugs from a harness that goes to the expansion valve. since...

    M7040 Expansion Valve Replacement

Affirmative on all, just worried about system "filling up" so fast and compressor not turning on. calling ac guy to see if he's coming over this pm. paid forward with whiskey, cold beer coming as temps get over 100!

    M7040 Expansion Valve Replacement

BTW old expansion valve appeared really dirty with what the mechanic called "black dust" which he believes came from the failed compressor I replaced.

    M7040 Expansion Valve Replacement

OK, flushed entire system (minus drier and compressor) twice. Replaced drier and expansion valve. When taking out evaporator, the heat sensitizing tube fell out! So, I put it back into the holes I though it came from - plastic prong outside fins, metal one inside. Fixed small leak but not...

    M7040 Expansion Valve Replacement

thanks, I may flush, just not sure yet. will need to disconnect compressor but that's not hard at all. Since I'm replacing drier, could also flush condenser - a point where obstruction is common. So, Jim you're saying don't take it down to -30 psi?

    M7040 Expansion Valve Replacement

Thanks all, after talking to my buddies - the a/c guy (not vehicles BTW) and the mechanic, the plan is to replace the expansion valve and drier, clean the evaporator since I'll have the seat off, check for leaks - dye and bubbles, draw a vacuum over several hours, recharge and see what happens -...

    M7040 Expansion Valve Replacement

Yes, I have A/C equipment - gauges and vacuum. Replaced drier and compressor (after compressor locked up) a while back. My mechanic thinks that when replacing compressor, some gunk got into the expansion valve as it went from working well to not quickly. system was vacated properly, but no...

    M7040 a/c

thanks, checking charge this evening to see if it is the same. wonder why you had good air flow if evap was plugged, schematic shows no way around it.

    M7040 a/c

Thanks all. Mechanic and HVAC friends both came out yesterday. Mechanic thinks there's a leak somewhere but couldn't find it (dye/light under shed). He's a senior service guy at a Dodge dealership and repairs stuff at his home shop also. He pointed to really good air flow as an indicator...

    M7040 a/c

I do my own a/c work and have a pretty good understanding of how it works, plus have an HVAC guy that owes for dove hunting and whiskey so he's coming over - it's just we can't figure it out - I will check the heater valve/gate to ensure it's functioning - that's good. Sudden drop in effective...

    M7040 a/c

compressor belt is snug, replaced inside and roof filters, checked pressure with gauges, so will check heater valve - that's a good possibility. also the problem occurred rather quickly so unless I have a Freon leak (checking this evening) I don't really think the evaporator is dirty - just...

    M7040 a/c

air not cold, all components of a/c system ok, including proper Freon charge. dealer suggests removing/cleaning evaporator under seat. have service manual but of course it doesn't provide instructions. I've removed seat but hesitant to go further - I know I'll have to evacuate Freon from...
