was able to get back to it today and found that a my 5v is good to the sending unit until I plug the cluster in. I have had new parts bad before but never new cluster guess going to have to break down and get the manual to find my problem . the diagram that you shared was close but not close...

m9540 fuel gage is inop I tested the wires from the cluster to the sending unit and are good. tested sending unit and ohms change when moving up and down so I replaced the cluster and gage still reads empty. just could use a littlehelp on what to do next also has new sending unit
