Great idea. I use a piece of that grey pipe insulation and slide it over the splines on mine. A couple of wraps with electrical tape helps it stay tight, plus keeps it from splitting down the seam over time.

All I know is my 1977, B7100 has been one rock solid tractor. Just like any vehicle out there, it is easy to get 100K on the ticker, but when you start getting above that, that is where the quality of a well built vehicle starts to shine.

What I find helps reduce or eliminate the grinding gear issue, is to idle the tractor down a bit before shifting.

Tractor weight comes up as 1,080 lbs. I have the same set up. I don't know where I found it or heard it from, but I was told weight with FEL is around 1,500 lbs. That leaves the B219 loader around 400 lbs.

Mine is in a storage shed on my hunting land, 100 miles away. We have a cottage a few miles away from the hunting land, but it has been several years since the tractor has left my hunting land. I normally do all of the maintenance and repairs back there.
