    Visual of oil viscosity

Odd.... I'd expect both 5W to be the same at room temperature. Got to be something off with that test. A better test would be a drip test. A quart and a tiny hole for each sample and time to drip a quart. Oil rating is viscosity, 'thickness'/ability to flow not film strength. Do this test in a...

How do you clean your greasy loader pivots?

The grease build up also prevent dirt from getting in the pivot. I only clean off where I'll lean/rub/bump against. If... I clean out the build up, it is just before I re-grease, thus replacing the build up with fresh build up.

"Burnishing" your new brakes. WTF......... Now I've heard it all. (I'm raising the Bullsh!t flag)

I was taught, a few gentle stops from 30 to get the pads/shoes to 'mate' to maximum performance. I could certainly tell the difference. My current PU shop manual does use the term 'burnish in the brakes', its a 2005. When I raced cars and motorcycles, we prepped spare rotors and pads, We'd...

    New Cars/Trucks

These days, first owners, 30K lease, they do not maintain it at all. Turn it in, get a new. That turn in becomes sold as a used car. An unmaintained used car. Even if, the new owner finally changes the oil, damage is done, sludge accumulated.

Kind of a serious question for my friends in the GWN or any one that knows

And... if you comply with the terms of your visa, it gets refunded. A visitor coming for a few weeks does not need a visa. Come to stay a long time, work, you need one.

L5240 HST dying, fuel or HST?

Debris mass in the tank too, will behave like that. Engine off, it is free to move about on the bottom of the tank. Running engine, fuel flow, the mass 'finds' the point of the fuel line and gets sucked over the hole.Shut off engine, wait a minute, it repeats. Fuel additive 'might' break it down...

    Tachometer 'Flutter'

I always used white lithium grease on speedo/tach cables. If the cable is nasty, I'd remove it completely, pull the inner, flush the outer with brake parts or electrical parts cleaner until the run out was clear. Then clean the inner, and a light film of lube on the inner and reassemble.

    Hour meter/tach problem

Hour meter, no change, tach, 0 rpm? While the faulty 'might be' in the cluster, do not assume. It could be just a bad connection or wire to the back of the cluster or to the alternator. Put a DMM on the wire at the cluster and see if you get a signal when running. No signal? Then do the same at...

    Hour meter/tach problem

You only need to know the number of pulses to expect for each revolution. A 4 cylinder 4 stroke gas engine will generate either 2 or four per revolution, (depending if it is wasted spark) If it uses a hall effect sensor on the flywheel, you'll get one per revolution(or more depending). Or any...

    Tachometer 'Flutter'

Yup, probably a loose wire at the alternator or even a loose fan belt.

    Hour meter/tach problem

'Tach' is the same as Frequency. Most meters these days have a frequency selection.

    Wifi "farm" extenders/MESH

I pulled fiber (8 strand mulimode) between my house and the outbuilding (Williams Shop of Horrors) No worry about lightning, 10gb speed (100X what I'll ever need). No worries about interference of any sort. Build it once. In the shop, I have a 24 port managed POE switch and an WiFi AP on the...

    An Injector Pump Shim Question

I suspect they simply use a few dial indicators. One to determine piston location and the other, injection pump cam lobe to surface. Piston at a certain point (probably BTDC) and then the corresponding value at the cam gives them another number and math tells them how much thickness to add. Or...

    Dealer runaround?

Welcome.to OTT I gotta say, your first post was mis-leading. I admit to knowing next to nothing about your particular tractor but the comment 'Time the fuel pump' made no sense and did in fact, sound like BS. Had you said 'They need time to properly do the fuel pump recall/TSB' that would of...

    ThreeBond 1206c Equivalent

I'd stay withe a ThreerBond 1207. About $25. The sad partis you use so little and the tube, once opened, like caulk, goes bad in time. When using, less is more, just a tiny bead as it squishes. Perfect amount barely squeezes out the seams.

The Original Tractor Relief Tool™ a Must Have!

Looks like I need another tool. I recently took my BH off, inside a cool building. I made extra sure to do it with a cold tractor (fluid cold) and shut the tractor off, wiggled all lines after the outriggers were strapped up. A few months later, temps not more than 20 degrees different, cold...

    Mower valve lapping

Before I did anything, I'd do a leak down test to determine if anything needs to be done. If something needs to be done to the valves.... You remove a valve Inspect the valve seating area and seat, looking for pits. Pits? New valve, cut the seat. Cupped valve? Replace the valve, may have to...
