Found the issue. There is nothing missing, and the cable sheath does in fact "connect" at both ends, as I suspected. The cable is FROZEN inside the sheath. Got it hanging in the basement now, forcing a little Liquid Wrench into it every hour or so. I can move it about an inch now. We'll see...

That seems like a strange setup. Then again, I'm used to things like the brakes on a bicycle where both ends of the sheath are fixed. I'm planning to tear into it in the morning, so should know something soon. Thanks!

Just bought a G4200. Need a service manual. Searching the web reveals dozens of different sites, and several versions of the "service manual". Can someone recommend a legit site and legit coy of the manual? Thanks Robert
