I've been looking for a land plane lately, and it certainly appears that the cheaper units are cheaper for reason. Thinner materials, cheaper welds, etc. I've settled on Land Pride or Bush Hog planes. Few more $ upfront, better life span, resale value.

Yes I've seen the other finish mowers that have wheels on the front and the back and I've considered jettisoning my current woods for one of those. That might be the most cost-effective way to fix this problem. BTW: may or may not be so obvious, my current woods mower has no wheels on the front
