Time to get splitting with my oil spitting homemade splitter

It's that time of the year to prepare for cold weather. I built a splitter 16 years ago with a 30 year old used engine then that started spitting oil bad last year. Off to Harbor Freight for a 12 hp Predator $299.00 engine and everything is good again. What a nice running engine for the price

Thanks. I was forced to build it 16 years ago after trying to find one that would be comfortable to use. Nothing vertical at a comfortable height to use was available back then so off to the surplus steel supplier and I ordered the hydraulic parts from surplus center. Back then I burned up a Bosch jigsaw along with about 30 metal cutting blades to cut all the parts from the 7 gauge steel blanks I found. Took 3 designs of the splitting wedge to get it to the point where the pump didn't kick down into the first stage when splitting most wood. It's a lot faster then in this video because the new engine was only running about 1000 rpm for break in. I could never go back to hand splitting or cutting steel with a jigsaw. If you heat with wood, a splitter is necessary as you get older.
