Diagnose Loader Issue - MX4800 with LA1065 Loader

I was moving trees on the farm last week and my loader/grapple went out.

-Grapple will tilt up and down
-Grapple jaws will not open/close
-Loader will go up very slowly and only if I hold it just right
-Loader will go down but only if I push the joystick all the way forward

I checked the electric connection for the third function and changed the fuse. I checked the hydraulic fluid. I uncoupled the quick connects for the grapple and the loader and reattached them. I don’t get any reaction from the third function buttons (no solenoid click, etc.)

I’m not smart enough to know if I have an electric issue (fuse?) or a hydraulic issue.

Anybody have any good ideas on how I can diagnose this? Thanks!

Start with disconnecting all the quick connections one by one and cleaning them. Then reconnect that connection and move along until they are all clean and you KNOW they are well connected.

The slow movement is (probably) from a blockage in the oil flow.

But it may be the third function valve that is staying in the actuated position that is blocking the flow. So look at the switch to be sure it isn’t stuck down or broken somehow. Then test to make sure you are getting electrical power to the switch and that the switch is sending and stopping the electrical flow to the solenoids on the valve. I would use an automotive type test lamp to probe the wires and see if it lights up appropriately or not. You may have a broken or shorted wire.

Very likely you have a PB issue.

I am going to guess the 3pt isn't working either.

Dollars to donuts the third function valve is stuck or short circuited in the ON state. Disconnect power to the valve and see what happens.

It would also be helpful if you told us what third function you have.

I think I found the problem. I traced the third function power wire from the battery back to the third function and found a spot where the wire was pinched and cut the insulation. When I came to work on the tractor today the battery was dead and I figured maybe i had a short somewhere.

I’m in the process of repairing the wire and recharging the battery now. I’ll report back.

PS: I have the Hydro-tek third function valve.

The 3rd function was added by my local Kubota dealer Houston County Tractor (now WC Tractor) in Crockett.

Once I charged the battery back up and disconnected the hot wire to the 3rd function, the loader (2 functions) operate normally. I need to rebuild the harness and route it better than they did at my dealer. It was in the way of removing the radiator screen so I moved it out of the way and unintentional stuck it in a place where it could get pinched.

Any advice on routing the wire from the joystick to the battery to keep it out of harm’s way is welcome. Appreciate all the help.
