Seems that at 04:30 EDT ,this morning some low life in Japan tried to use my debit card for a large sum. It was turned down, thankfully . So just keep a watch on your banking stuff, this has been a public announcement. We now return you to your normal programing

One thing of interest that many don’t probably know here is that Japanese ATMs don’t have a daily limit on what you can withdraw. Need $5000 worth of yen? Take it out. $10,000 worth of yen? Take it out!
So it makes sense that a large withdraw attempt would’ve occurred in Japan. Just a side note…
Thes days financial institutions really monitor transactions closely. I have receivef multiple alerts for transactions I did not initiate. Bank then invalidates my card and refunds my account. There have also been times when they flagged a legit transaction and the vendor had to resubmit the charge.
I remember the early days when no bank in their right mind would allow remote banking over any public network. How things have changed.

When Skeets said debit card I equated that to ATM card, used to withdraw money from your bank account via ATM and not a debit card which can be used as a credit card except the money is debited from your account. I guess today ATM cards also function as debit cards now that I think about it.
In the US "debit cards" can be used at ATMs, as well as for online and point of sale purchases They are typically linked to checking or savings accounts and are essentially "electronic checks".
Bank debit cards backed by big name providers like VISA or Mastercard can be processed as either credit or debit transactions at the descretion of the merchant but you still have to have the money in your account. Merchant fees are generally higher when running the card as a credit transaction.

Someone steals my numbers once every 2 years or so….
They flag it, I get a text asking if it was me, and I just reply “No”. Then they cancel the card, and send me a list of suspicious transactions that I have to validate/invalidate
The crappy part is that I have to then go and change the number on the accounts I am using it for.
Annoying to say the least.

Hopefully it was the bank and not those %^&$E scammers robocalling pretending to be the credit card company and spoofing their phone numbers
