My mother-in-law had a raised threshold and had trouble getting over it with a walker. We found these aluminum ramps that fit the door width and solved that problem.
Here is a link to various threshold ramps. The aluminum ones are down a way, but you may like some other type.

Yes, something will be needed for that door threshold.
Amazon has a huge selection made from industrial cast rubber.
I use a similar device (pair) with six inch rise for backing my Kubota into the shipping container when installing the rotary cutter. Thanks for the reminder. We are getting the prep projects done slowly.
The ramp completed today was a big one and now is checked off.

We ordered an aluminum door threshold ramp off of Amazon today. 34" wide and usable in height from
2-3/4" up to 3-1/4" while ours measured exactly 3-1/4" high.
We accurately measured the cabin on Sunday for the Rock Wool insulation purchase.
The first floor and the second story end walls are 2" x 4" (16" on center) while the second story gambrel roof trusses are 2" x 6" (16" on center) so we will need two different thickness of Rock Wool.
We also paid $5000 to our friend & neighbor, the well pounding guy. Time to get pounding.

We got some good news tonight.
The water well pounding guy called and said they have completed the new well for depth.
It's at 100 feet depth now and has a recharge rate of better than 26 gallons per minute.
His equipment for measuring the well recharge rate is maxed out at 24 - 25 gallons per minute.
It's possible it's greater than 26 gpm.
He said that he would have been really happy with 12 gpm, and routinely sees wells at 8 gpm.
Next is the submersible well pump and the wires/tubing connection going into the cabin.
It's a pretty short run from the well casing to the back wall of the cabin, maybe 40 feet.
I believe we will go with a Rinnai propane fired on demand water heater.
I looked into electric on demand water heaters and was underwhelmed on performance.
Plus three 40+ amp 240 volt circuits and three circuit breakers for powering the electric unit.

A couple of nice shooters you have there. I've only seen Does with little ones so far, after cutting my 15 acres this week.

My adjoining neighbor at the recreational property is also a hunter.
We are both realists, we understand that the deer, bear, and other critters run across our respective property boundaries every day. So we share some of our trail camera pictures.
That big buck, my neighbor got a photo of him the day before I did.
We do hope that he feels welcome and stays nearby.
It will be a nice addition to the gene pool.

07_29_2026_aI'm not saying it works on individual properties but antler restrictions passed in Texas early 2ks along with generous doe harvest allowance made unbelievable difference in whitetails. Legal buck has one unbranched antler or 13" or more spread. Spike tags are attached to license and don't count against buck limit in most counties. The difference in average bucks within 3 years was remarkable. Wildlife biologists had told hunters and landowners since mid-50s that spikes do not grow up to be 8 pointers and that too many does in Texas caused inbreeding . Despite expert warnings, spikes and does were allowed to walk.
Regardless where one lives, if they are interested in wildlife, trail cams are really nice. There's a small bear population near me that no one believes until shown porch and trail cam footage.

New York State has some deer management zones with antler restrictions in the Catskills Mountains which is southeast from my land by 60 to 100 miles.
Most of the landowners near my property have less than 100 acres.
We have seen huge rack bucks on the trail cameras and then they aren't seen ever again.
They do travel a fair distance, especially during the rut.
I have owned the property for more than 20 years, and we have learned more about what is running around
in the woods in the last 9 to 10 months than in all of the previous years. Why? The trail camera system.
I expect to be living permanently on that rural land by the time deer hunting season rolls around.
I may not have any hunting time this year due to the better half and her terminal health diagnosis.

My dear girlfriend passed away yesterday at the age of 52.
She leaves behind an 18 year old daughter and a 23 year old son.
She battled ALS valiantly until she couldn't.
She started having some mobility issues starting in May 2025.
Her left ankle wouldn't move. (drop foot)
By November 2025, she barely walked using arm crutches.
She was diagnosed with limb onset ALS on January 27th, 2026.
Since the diagnosis, her mobility and health declined every single day.
Yesterday I was moving her from our bedroom into the living room using a Hoyer lift.
We had been laughing in the bedroom prior to moving her to the living room.
Coming down the hallway between the two rooms, I heard her take a deep breath and her head tipped forward. I spoke to her and she didn't answer.
Once out in the living room, I set her in her recliner chair and disconnected the Hoyer lift sling.
I reclined the chair so I could place my ear on her chest.
No audible heartbeat or respiration sounds.
Just like that, she was gone.
Anytime there is a unattended death without medical professionals present, an investigation takes place.
I called the Sheriff's Department who notified State Police and several Troopers showed up along with
a State Police Investigator. Eventually the ambulance showed up and I showed them her medical directive document that stated she wished for a DNR. The ambulance crew listened for a heartbeat, and then departed.
Eventually, the County Medical Examiner arrived, and later, the Funeral Home pickup crew.
I spent the remainder of yesterday making phone calls.
I do miss her.
I am also glad she isn't suffering any longer, ALS is a cruel disease.
