Newbie and the Bota Water-Filter separator

Hi y'all, kind of a weird question:
So, up in the U.P, I have a BX2380 and am installing the Bota Water-Filter separator. Last winter, I was using Howes Diesel treatment, kept the tank full, and had no problems. I do use the block heater for 1 hour before starting too.. Now, I'm wondering: if I'm using the water-separator, do I still need Howes Diesel treatment? Does it make sense to keep using it? Are the two things even related? 'ppreciate any thoughts you may have on that. Best...D

The treatment and the filter don't do the same things.
So it's up to you if you think you need to treat the fuel.

Thank you. I dunno': Most everyone up here uses Howes--anti-gelling and such. Well, if it doesn't mess with the filter, I'll figure it's all good. Thanks again...D

I would keep using it.

It's relatively cheap and helps prevents fuel from gelling in cold weather and supposed to lubricate fuel injectors.

I would also encourage use of a biocide.

I hadn't considered any biocide. Can you tell me of a few common ones? Thx.!

This is what i use. Based on the shelf space, this stuff gets in our stores it seems to be the most common. Works well for me.

I would use whatever is most common in your area on the shelf. There seems to be unlimited choices out there for biocides. I consider it cheap insurance versus an expensive repair or downtime when time is critical.

Thank you. I looked up a few on the net, and all of 'em said for larger storage tanks, or, smaller fuel containers ( 5 gal-if it's gonna' sit more than 6 months). At this point, I have maybe one that'll sit for that long, and I can feed that into the shop diesel heater I suspect. I'll get some anyways so it's 1 more thing to protect the system. Aint' that expensive, at least compared to bad things happenin'. Thanks again....D

So don't let it build up while it's warm out, ice crystals will also plug up a filter, best to treat and filter prior to putting in tractor tank, if you have trouble with quality fuel supply ...

Yep, I treat it in the storage container ( 5 gal), and the #1 diesel seems to be good from a much-used pump in town. No issues last winter, and working to make sure I don't have any going foward. Thanks!
