Title says most. Out maintaining my gravel road when a car hit me.

Initial impact was rear tire (filled), then onto the 3pt rake.

Only damage I noticed was scuffs on the tire and sheered/bent pin on the rake.

Everything seems to be working as it should. Anyone reccomend looking/checking elsewhere for damage? Can the hydraulics be damaged from an impact like that?

I’d say the car was traveling about 10-15mph.

Thanks for asking. I’m fine other than pissed off. I saw it coming and swerved. If I didn’t swerve he’d have it me broadside between the wheels.

@Trash Panda I was thinking the same. I watch a lot of motorcycle crash videos like dandanthefireman and usually there is at least 1 prius every new video compilation.

Glad you are ok. Are you having insurance get involved? If so probably need to get a shop to go through it and make sure there is no other damages internally other than the obvious external damage.

We have a few people who drive way to fast down our gravel road, but so far, almost all slow way down when I'm working on the road. I do keep my bucket on, and although I wouldn't want to do it, that's that they would hit first if I thought there was a collision coming from the front. From the rear, I'd lift my grader scraper. Yes, I wear my seatbelt always when on the community road.

Overall, they were lucky, and you obviously tried very hard to miss them.

Sorry to hear that and so preventable and stupid! they should cover anything (theoretically)...

Having same machine and tire for 5 years my knee jerk reaction is that it is much more rugged. However, you are ok and were onboard for the ride to be judge vs hastle of getting it checked out at dealer etc.

PS: I had the exact same scenario on a back road with my Jeep and an old guy in a new micro Mercedes. Got out and had the b@!!s to yell at me until the cop got there after doing the hitting! Scuffed my tire, and his fender looked the same as that Prius.

The hydraulics don't give a hoot about impacts like that.
Look around the three point linkage for cracks in the cases where they attach.
Also where the top link attaches.

You can always take it to the dealer and have them look it over.
Explain the situation and let them tell the insurance company what damage was caused.
If you miss anything now it will be too late after insurance gets involved.
Did you have your warning flashers on?

I would jack it up and check the tire and wheel to see if there is any run out, while it is unlikely they are damaged it would be a big cost to have them replaced.

What was the driving doing just before hitting you? Looking at their cell phone?

I see that every day. Sitting at an intersection, the light turns green and they don't move. Too busy texting on their phone.

Either drive the car or use the phone but not at the same time.

I would like to see phones become disabled while driving.

Except when dialing 911.

Distracted driving is already against the law in many areas. People who are prone to that will find something else like tuning their radio/talking to the people/dogs in their car/reading a book/eating/putting on makeup, etc.

Many of us remember that before cellphones there were still people who didn't pay attention. Cellphones are a handy scapegoat. Cellphones aren't the problem. The people are the problem. I don't have a fix for that.
