My baler keeps breaking the sledge roller chain on the left side if face the back of the baler. Bearing and sprockets seem to be good. Usually does it as the first hay is coming in after kicking the bale out. Any thoughts?

didn't know kubota made balers but on our deere balers chain tension was critical. same thing on harvesters, chain tensions are crucial for proper operation.

too loose and chain can climb under sprocket and overtighten until it breaks. too tight it can stretch and break. are your tensioners or tension adjustments in spec and operate smoothly without binding? do spockets spin freely, no bearings or bushings seized? assuming specs require balanced tension on both sides of the follower, are they even? imbalanced chain tension may be causing binding on one side of the follower.

if you have one or can borrow one, can you fit a compact camera like a go-pro in there to catch it happening? some of my guys at work would do that to see an event on machinery otherwise not visible.

hope that helps or sparks a hint, good luck! 🍻

I don't know much about balers... is there any clutch mechanism that is supposed to slip before something breaks? Seems like if this is the case then any internal bind shouldn't get to the point of braking the chain.

When I see a broken chain on a combine it's often times due to bad alignment of incorrect tension, as @Killer Bee pointed out. Also if the sprocket's teeth have sharpened at all it is harder on the chain.

Is the chain worn and stretched? Are the sprockets worn?
