Upgrade? My neighbor is selling his 2022 bx23s with 200 hours. Bucket, backhoe, forks, snowplow, snowchains included. I've borrowed it a few times and it runs well. I have a 1983 L235dt with 450 hours, also runs well, but no backhoe.

He's willing to sell it to me for for a deal, around the same price I could probably get for my tractor around here. I love the simplicity of my current rig but I can also see the value in upgrading to something 40 years newer. Any advice/opinions appreciated. Thanks.

The L235 is quite a bit bigger machine isn't it? The BX is a good machine if you're mostly on lawn, and not doing too much 3ph work. If you need more ground clearance, or more range of motion (and capability) on the 3ph, then it's pretty compromised.

What work would you anticipate doing with it? The short answer is that it sounds like great buying if you can genuinely trade a 1983 machine for a 2022 machine with similar HP, and get a backhoe into the deal. So long as there's no job you want to do that the BX can't do, I'd jump on it.

I would proably buy it, with the ā€œintentionā€ of selling it, at some point.

Then magically, I might/would ā€˜keep it aroundā€ for a few years, and finally my wife would sayā€¦ā€Hey, when are you going to sell this thing?ā€ā€¦.To which I will/would reply….ā€Soon…very soonā€. ;)

In the mean time, you can drive them both and ā€œdecideā€.(y)

It’s a ā€œprocessā€ā€¦...

From what I see in a quick search, You can pick up an L235DT for $3k to $5k

So if he is gonna sell you a 2022 BX23 for anywhere in that ballpark... I'd say it's a no brainer...

a new BX23s is probably 30k
I paid 22k for mine in 2017

and yes, Keep both tractors.
the loader on your L235 will probably lift more than the limp BX loader.
