Thanks you all for your replies and comments. As someone who has never owned a Kubota, I appreciate the insight. I’m leaning toward making the purchase. I don’t think I will regret it.

so ... i will never regret buying this ol' girl. but i'd not buy a new one for my first tractor. i mean, unless i had 3x the cost of my pickup truck just sorta laying around. i bought this 1998 l3010 for $9k and it has absolutely changed the way i approach projects around the house and the farm. i've put a few bucks into it since then - and broken some things on it - as is apt to happen when using any tool that you're new to. sounds like you'd be paying retail pricing for this ... so if it were me, i'd make sure it's exactly what i want or need - which is super hard to judge if you've not owned/used a tractor before.

anecdote time... i bought a rotary cutter for this at an auction site. take your pick - they all are pretty much the same. used it for the first time a couple weekends ago - had to buy a PTO shaft for it, as the one it came with was completely stripped out. so, i won the auction for $300 ... the shaft was $470 at my local TSC, and it did get the job done... but it looked like mud was leaking from the gearbox as well. gearbox runs maybe $250-$350 probably. new brush hog is like $1800, but i'm pretty sure i'm going to run this until it falls apart, just to learn what not to do so that when i do buy a new one... it'll last

Sorry for showing up late with a comment about your buying this tractor. Maybe I missed it, but are you also buying a bucket for the front end loader as part of the deal? Useful as the grapple is, there are some situations where a material bucket is the preferred weapon of choice. Any digging or moving of loose material (soil, sand, gravel, snow, etc.), for example.

sorry for the slow update but the purchase did not work out. Before I got comfortable enough to pull the trigger, the tractor was sold. I’m hoping to get some other options soon and I will post them to get everyone’s thoughts.

I’ve learned the hard way that if a deal is a good one, you have to jump on it asap. When I was looking to replace my m6040, I found an M4 30 miles away and contacted the seller. He said someone was coming to look at it the coming weekend. Turns out, the potential buyer made a lowball offer and was rejected. I zipped down there and after seeing the machine and talking with the seller made a higher offer and was accepted.
