Hello guys,
Im new here and just wanted to share my experience and see if you guys have any advice for me.
So I purchased this tractor a few weeks ago from a friend. I knew the tractor and had borrowed it from time to time,
It had an issue where the it would run rough (starving ) every now and then and clear up . We thought it was fixed by running some conditioner .
Well yesterday it did it again while i was smoothing so I decided to pull the tank. They dont make this an easy job .. Dang.
Anyway i got the tank out and sending unit is rusting very badly. And the bottom of the tank looked like mud.
I have the tank clean and dry but i cant put it back together without a new sending unit.
I ordered one from Messick and Im afraid this could be a backorder because where it usually says how many are in stock it says usually ships in 5-7 days.
My question is kind of a gripe too. why the heck would they put an item in the tank that will rust?
there is no way to install the tanks and replace the unit later .. Tank has to be out.
I guess im asking where else could i find one if Messicks dont pan out ? thanks for any help .

Local dealer?

Coleman’s?

Search by “Kubota” and the part number and you might find one on e-bay or something like that.

If you have a local dealer, you will definitely get a better deal through them.

Pricing is on par, only without the shipping cost. You have the added benefit of building a relationship with your local source of knowledge as well.

I'm surprised eBay didn't pan out for you.

My local Kubota place has never let me down, even on the most obscure parts, but they don't come cheap.

Dont get too far out over your skis. That 5-7 day availability just means they have to order it from the main kUbota warehouse. I expect you will get it just as indicated and that is based on past experiences.

Don't forget to put a filter at the fuel opening. After reading the horror stories about crap in the tank, I bought one of those coffee filters for my 1880. Fit perfect. Best money spent for my tractor.

The wire mesh coffee filters. Search the forum and you will see what others have done. The one I bought fit perfect where I pour the fuel in the tank. The thread was someone getting a leaf that fell into the tank while fueling. After what he described the fix, remove the tank, in order to get the leaf out, I purchased the filter. Am sure someone else here can post what they bought. Not sure if these tanks have the same opening so may be tractor specific.

Coffee filter. Some of us use them to keep debris from getting into the tank while we are fueling.

Then again, adding a decent filter is worth considering.

Lastly, while it won't help with a rusted out sending unit, some people install a clean-out port on their tank under the seat.

If the OP wants, he can have mine. The only one I found at the time that fits an L is/was crap.

I filed it under “S” for “sh!t can”.

You would have to bring a lunch, and make provisions for bathroom breaks, in order to fill it with fuel……. and most likely he will have to fill it with an “eye dropper”.

Unless someone has come up with a “better mouse trap” since I tried it….. 🤷‍♂️ ;)

How many millions of pieces of diesel equipment out on a ROW have wide open fuel tanks under the fuel cap, and get fuel daily without issue?

How many Peterbilts have a mesh piece of junk under their fuel cap as a preventative measure?

Getting debris in the tank is a 100% preventable operator error. No coffee filter needed lol

That is super short. Mine is long. Almost touches the tank. Fills up just as fast as without.

Agree! I have been driving diesel pickups since 1995, bought my Deere 955 utility tractor in 1994, and installed a 40 KW diesel standby generator 6 years ago.

I suspect these Kubota debris in tank issues are from stuff not cleaned out by the parts supplier. If my Kubota F2690 develops an issue due to debris in the fuel tank, I am confident it will be because it was designed in because I fuel it with the same care I have done with all of my other diesel equipment which means treating it normally.

Appreciate the advise and offer on the filter. Mine mostly came from rusted sending unit and what looks like possibly dirt that may have fell in during fueling. ill be very careful here on out. Its way too hard of a job to pull that tank.
