Hydraulic line under tractor seems too long

I have a LA481 that needs to have the hydraulic line from the filter to the transmission replaced. The pipe that was leaking popped right off, of course, but the replacement pipe is not going back on. We have tried every which way, and one end or the other is too long. Desperately in need of advice as our tractor is currently blocking our driveway.

Which tractor do you have? The model you have listed is a the loader model.
What part did you order?
Did something catch that line and pull it apart? Did anything get bent/damaged around the filter area?

Welcome! LA481 is the loader model. That pipe is part of the tractor, not the loader. What's your tractor model, starts with something like B or LX, including a suffix at the end?

Did the original pipe get bent? You may be able to fix it. Did you get the new one from a dealer? Got the part number? Finally, if you hit something, is it possible the filter bracket got bent or moved?

Looks like the LA481 was used on a few different tractors and your issue is on the tractor, not the loader. As others have said, it would likely be helpful to identify what tractor you’re dealing with. The tractor model should be on the hood and there should be an identification plate with the model number, serial number, etc. which would be helpful. Some parts can vary within the same model based on serial number.

Also would help to know why the line started leaking. Was it damaged somehow? If yes, how? Any possibility of other damage causing misalignment?

All that aside, if you still have the original line and it isn’t severely deformed by some sort of damage, the new line should be same shape and length. If they don’t match, you have the wrong replacement part.

Not knowing the details of what model tractor you have I am just guessing based on some other machines. I suspect you have to unbolt the oil filter housing and move it to the side to get enough clearance to insert the pipe. Then move the housung back and reinstall the bolts once the pipe is in place. You can not replace that suction tube without unbolting the filter housing and pulling it away from the tractor.

Sorry, I did not realize that was the loader model. I am trying to do this while my husband is traveling for work, but I desperately need the tractor up and running to move hay bales and do other farm chores. It is an L3410. I looked at removing the oil filter housing and it looked like I would have to completely remove the floor board to access the bolts.

Yes, the original pipe got bent and then was causing it to leak hydrolic fluid at the seals.

That filter housing has to be loosened to install the pipe. Does removing the filter help?

No you don't need to remove the floor board, the 2 bolts that hold the filter housing on come out the side.
Just pull the filter to access the bolts.
