Can you post a photo of the square drive plug?
Here you go. I posted this photo on this forum quite a few years ago. I ended up ordering a 9/32" 4-point socket for it after I noticed the square starting to round off from using an open end wrench. I used a file to clean up the head of the plug and had no issues since using the socket.

I have two air powered Lincoln grease guns. My older model, which is going on 20 years old, has given me zero problems, save for losing the pull handle to retract the spring TWICE. My newer Lincoln gun is a model 1162 that is now just over two years old, also zero problems. The zerk coupler on both Lincoln guns gave me zero trouble with leaking and seem to be well built. I tried a neighbors lock n lube on my gun and it would not fit in most of the recesses that Kubota put the grease fittings in on my tractor.
I’ve always liked the Lincoln guns, I just despise having yet another different brand of battery to worry about keeping charged.

They are a quality unit, without a doubt.

I will get flamed for this but i don't like the battery powered grease guns and we have a metabo and dewalt hanging on our bench wall.

I rarely go through more than 2 tubes at any one point in time so not a heavy grease user per session although i do buy grease by the case.

Why don't I like? I think it takes away the art (feel) of greasing. I loose the feel (pressure) and the sound. By hand I can feel when resistance starts to build and stop pumping before blowing out seals, destroying bearings, etc... Also by hand I can hear the grease through some fittings / seals.

So for me i am not prepared to give up art of having the feel and sound and knowing the grease is flowing, when resistance is felt, easier to avoid overfilling / blowing out seals, destroying bearings, etc.... I am prepared to go slow, take time, have better feel for greasing tasks. i have no need for NASCAR speed during grease servicing.

but heck that's just me and I rarely go though more than 2 tubes at one time so the old / cheap pistol grip works fine for me. But options are always good i suppose.

edit: also as someone just told me this morning, by hand makes it easy to tell if zerk is plugged or taking grease helps avoid letting joint go dry.

I agree with you when it comes to seals, but they're great for those joints that don't have seals, such as pins and hinges, or anything that takes a lot of grease such as trailer bearings.

Thanks for posting this reminder!
I think it;s 7MM and I've always wondered what the Kubota techs use?
Good Luck!

My equipment has many recessed grease fittings prior to greasing; I need to clean the recessed area (rag and small tipped screwdriver) to avoid pushing sand/grit into the fitting any tips to make this task easier?

I don’t think there is much getting around that.

It’s best just to embrace the fact that greasing equipment is just unenjoyable.

I just use a quick twist of a paper towel. (ok will admit sometimes just a swipe of my finger then cleaned on the coveralls)
If really greasy around the area I will give the area a quick wipe.
Only a second or two on each zerk.
But not fussy or time consuming on this task.
If it takes more than a finger nail to depress the zerk ball / spring or ball is missing then it gets more attention.

Its not fun but I sometimes use a power washer on my backhoe zerks.

I tried that a few times.
Inevitably caught the blow back grease to the body / face and having to spend more time de-greasing my glasses than cleaning actual equipment (haha) I guess i just have to be more careful.

no matter how hard I try I always get grease all over me and everything else. I wash my hands good when done, take a shower that night, and when I get up in the morning there's grease all over my pillow 😁

I have some old no-name manual grease gun that I got for free out of a garage clean out one time.
Best grease gun ever. Probably USA made.

We have a Milwaukee at work. It is nice, and fast, but we've had it sent out for repair a couple of times. And realistically it is used pretty lightly. So I'm not entirely impressed with it.
That sucks. This one has had over 100 tubes through it. Been run over. Beat up in service truck. Now has an easy life. Actually just tossed 4 manual ones in dumpster. Kept 1. Getting to old to not have battery powered everything. šŸ˜‚

I buy a box of store brand Qtips and use them to clean around the grease fittings. There are rubber caps you can buy to cover the grease fittings, and they work well. A cheaper alternative is to go on Ebay and buy brake bleeder screw caps. They fit on grease fittings and hold better than most grease fitting caps. I bought a bag of 25 for something like $5 when I bought my Kubota. I also use them on my Toyota grease fittings.
