I have actually used them to steer when skidding logs with my old JD855. Front tires were lifting off the ground with the pull.
Agree - seems like a good feature but a dumb implementation. I do use the brakes occasionally, and also drive off with the parking brake engaged, at least once every day I use the tractor. More than once if it's a long day.I love my Kubota, but the brakes being on the RH side above the Treadle Pedal, makes 0 sense to me.
I have never used my brakes one time yet, (besides the parking brake….and yes I constantly forget that it’s on and drive off like a “dumbass" with it engaged)
If I needed to use the brakes in an “emergency situation” I would be totally F’d….There is no way in hell that my mind would tell my right leg to move…….
Steering brakes are a good feature, indeed.Agree - seems like a good feature but a dumb implementation. I do use the brakes occasionally, and also drive off with the parking brake engaged, at least once every day I use the tractor. More than once if it's a long day.
Today I was driving slowly uphill with a heavy (for my tractor) load of rocks and noticed a slight squeaking sound. I noticed it squeaked driving forwards but not backwards. Didn't sound too good - wondering what I would have to fix next. Then I disengaged the parking brake - squeaking problem solved. You don't have a monopoly on "dumbass".
Kubota made the change on most B series tractors a couple of decades ago. The moved the brake pedals to the left when they removed the clutch.I only use my clutch to activate the nanny switch to start the tractor ... The PTO has its own electric clutch, and I have to be stopped anyways to change ranges . . . I'm unsure why they decided to even put a manually operating clutch in it?
In my opinion if they put the brakes on the left where the clutch pedal is, and eliminate the clutch pedal ... It would be better, do modern day hydrostatic transmission tractors have clutch pedals?
Thanks Shawn. I can't even find that much in my manual. This is all my manual says about the brake and clutch on my L5030 ...

In the 30 or so years I owned my B7200DT I dont recall ever using the steering brakes. They simply arent needed. Keeping them properly adjusted so they worked as a unit was a PITA.Thanks Shawn. I can't even find that much in my manual.
