Hi,
I am new here and today purchased a Kubota W5019-PC. I found this on Facebook Marketplace and was extremely intrigued as, for one, I had no idea Kubota made a push mower, never mind a gas engine. I did what research I could on these and come to find out there is very little out there about these. Can anyone provide any more information about these obscure mowers?
The seller said it didn't run but I pulled on the starter and the engine turned over easily but no start. I brought it home, gave it a nice cleaning, looked it over more, checked the oil (very clean and topped off), put a splash of fuel in the bone dry fuel tank and, after five pulls, it started and ran fairly well. It seemed to not have run in a very long time. I let it run for a few minutes, crossed my fingers and engaged the blades and it grabbed, blade a spinning and engine running great. After testing I went to shut down the engine and it does not want to shutdown even when pulling the throttle to stop multiple times. I had to turn the fuel shutoff to off to shut it down and even that took time. I checked the throttle lever at the carburetor and it is at the stop position as well. Does anyone know what may be the issue? Could it be a carburetor problem itself?
Some other things I noted about this W5019 is that the build quality is amazing. It feels rock solid in your hands, rolls so easily and overall feels like a battle tank. Small things like the oil dipstick even feel like a high quality piece. The throttle lever clicks into each each position nicely. Comparing this 30 year old mower to something new at Home Depot seems like comparing a Rolls-Royce to a 90s Kia.
I took some pictures of it with some as bought and post wipe down. This is my first lawn mower and I recently bought this house so please ignore many of the issues that I am in the process of fixing such as restoring the lawn and fixing the driveway. Next up is a garden tractor in a few weeks to help tackle all the lawn clean up, overgrown brush and trees out back and ultimately do most of the mowing. This will be for tight areas the garden tractor can't get to. I have a couple parts on order like wheel caps, filters and some manuals.
