good day
thanks in advance fer yer help

I'm a decent shade tree mechanic, but new to tractors

tldr: tractor won't drive (dual clutch)(mechanical transmission) clutch is in spec, transmission main shaft spins freely - even in gear
please help

here's the story:
parked it fer lunch
adjusted the free play in the clutch pedal
(was super slack)

after lunch
PTO engages
but the tractor won't drive

it's got a dual stage clutch
and l figured it was stuck engaged ..

so l split the tractor
removed the clutch

there was some rust
so sanded rust, applied anti-seze
adjusted to spec
put it back together;

same problem :(

split it again

transmission main shaft spins freely
no matter what gear, or direction (F/R)
is selected
for what is worth, it feels like it goes into gear

so it seems to me like a transmission problem?

when l drained the oil it was clean, (no metal chunks)

please help

thanks

How did you determine the main shaft is spinning?

Main suspect is range lever not engaged.

Can you engage and disengage the PTO?

Do you have the WSM (aka service manual)?

So we are all back up and running?
got it back to gether Friday evening
testing it today
and now the clutch is stuck disengaged!

stomp on the pedal and tractor still moves/gears grind

adjust the pedal linkage till no free play at all (book says about an inch)
still no clutching

wtf!

l did adjust the main disk adjuster screws
(to spec, with a feeler gauge)

did not adjust the first set of adjuster screws

seems like l over did it?

unfortunately the inspection cover is under the loader attachment...
which l was hoping not to remove
but seems like l need to

try to see what is going on in there/adjust those screws....

really don't want to split this thing again

thoughts?

got the inspection cover off
easier than l thought

looks like the friction disk isn't sliding on the input shaft...

looks like plenty of release...
(more than a 1/16th of gap)

seems like l get to split it again

if the hydraulics were connected
I'd be tempted to drive it around
brake hard with the clutch in
see if l can get it to let go
but
they aren't
so
guess Imma split it again

unless someone has a better idea

it's apart (again)

turns out (rushing) on Friday l broke the PTO clutch friction disk
and got the center section jammed in the clutch housing

that's what l get
l guess

any way
waiting on parts now
