All I know is that 2 feet of snow and -8F is a great repellant for alligators, fire ants, chiggers (whatever they are?!?!), and almost all venomous snakes that Cajuns have to contend with...... 🥶 🥶;)
Chiggers are the Devil’s spawn!

They are mites that put their saliva in your skin and then eat the dissolved goo. Of course humans are allergic to the saliva and it itches for days afterwards-and I mean ITCHES! Generally you scratch it too much and then get an infected, itchy spot. They like to get into dark moist spaces like tops of socks, waistbands, and other more personal spots.

They are tiny and generally you can’t see them but they crawl to the top of the grasses and plants to get onto you. And there are probably hundreds to thousands per square foot in an infested area so you can get a lot of bites in a small amount of time and space. They come out when the weather is nice so same as when you want to be outside!

Luckily bug sprays with DEET (on clothing or skin) are effective in repelling them.

Leftovers tonight. Made up a soup from left over noodles, chicken stock and bok choy. Added in some soy sauce, fish sauce and a red chili paste mixed with garlic. Quite tasty. Not sure I can replicate since I just grabbed and tossed it in the bowl

Russell - many thanks.

I’ve spent a lot of time outdoors. Thankfully those were critters we never had to fret about in the northeast.

Replying to my own post only because high temps for Saturday and Sunday are 2 and 6 degrees.....lows -10F +/-.

Winds at up to 40mph Saturday with 2-4" of snow early.

We have stuff freezing in the "Beer 'Fridge" in the attached garage. Hasn't happened very often in our 35 years here.....

🥶 🥶

Chicken soup will taste good after I thaw it out from the Beer Fridge.... 😋

First person I hear bitch out heat this summer I'm going to punch..... ;)

Our forecast is 22 below windchills tomorrow with 8 inches of lake snow. Soon I will have burned a normal seasons worth of firewood. It has been a cold one. Just took a big bag of Cousins Lobster frozen New England clam chowder out of the freezer for the next 2 days. We were saving it for cold weather and this should be as cold as it gets. Below normal for march supposedly on the way.

Yeah - - our windchills are like -176F or something.... ;)

We used to say it's "too cold to snow." Proven that's not true for Lake Effect and some other circumstances.....

CHOWDA and Chicken Noodle will be comforting....😋

New England Clam Chowder is a soup I honestly can't make well.....never been happy with it. Love a good one, and I admit I can't do it.

We can't make good clam chowder either. This is a good one that were having. https://shop.cousinsmainelobster.com/products/new-england-clam-chowder
It's shipped frozen and tastes fresh. Some things are just worth buying.
It does get too cold to snow up here every once in a while when lake Ontario freezes over.

Had a Wendy burger for lunch. To compensate, it was high of 68F and sunny. Perfect day for outdoor work.

@ -2 f deg for a high tomorrow I'm thinking a nice sirloin beef pot pie will be needed.
To be continued.
I'll be hearing from my "beef guy" pretty soon.

200 maple taps will also show up at my place.

Both are signs of Spring.

Can't get here soon enough.....🐄🍁

It's looking to be a really good sugar season up this way. That's not a hobby I picked up, been invited to partake, but I declined. But do love me Amber syrup though.

200 taps !!! 😲 I only do 12 and have enough syrup for 5 years. I have a very crude setup for boiling that takes forever. After this cold, you should have a great year. Have fun.

I used to do about 30 taps for myself.

Later let a dairyman neighbor tap all of our property and he does almost 200 at our place.

He does 1,000 + altogether and has had good results on our place.

I think he’d like to diversify enough that he no longer needed to milk cows every day. I think he’s getting closer each year.

Many years ago I boiled them for stock and threw them away. Couldn’t sell chicken wings.

A short while later, the Buffalo Chicken Wing rage reached Cortland, New York.

I paid $4.49/# for these things……Jesus how times have changed.

I’ll either grill or Air Fry them. Prefer grilled

Homemade Wing Sauce….😋

Couple pizzas in the works also. One cheese, and @TheOldHokie ‘s favorite of hot sausage, peppers, and onions..(forgot to get mushrooms, and it was-14F this morning…🥶 - didn’t want to go to the store.)
