Just sharing a recent discovery on my BX2816 snowblower after I started troubleshooting why I was breaking several shear pins on both sides of the auger and on the 4-blade chute fan every time I used the blower recently.
It was happening while engaging and disengaging the PTO, at lowest possible idle. I discovered that the two allen set screws on the upper sprocket were completely loose and the sprocket was freely sliding back and forth on shaft/key. I'm assuming the sprockets were getting misaligned and causing abnormal tension. I used red locktite, aligned the sprockets, and tightened them back down and have not had another shear pin break since. Pic here
Hope the helps
