Hello,

I recently bought a L3301 that has the 3pt speed adjustment valve froze. The tractor had 570 hour on it. From the looks it did not look as if the 3pt was every used. Paint is fresh and still had the plastic cap on the spindle. The hitch goes up and down. I have been shooting PB blaster on it for a while. I removed the Knob so that I had access to it. The angle is tough to get a good grip on it with vice grip or pliers. I found an Allen wrench that fits the hole the cotter pin used for the knob and have tried to use that to work the valve. I have a shop maintenance manual and looked at hole it is built, figuring if I want to try and pull it out to rebuild it. Any thoughts? Should I just leave it alone since it works. I have a boxblade and a flail mower and a ballast box that I use with it. It goes down moderate. Thanks

Im confused. You say that your 3 point appears unused, and the paint is fresh looking with plastic on the spindle.
What spindle has plastic on it?
Then you say you have attachments you use, and they lower at a moderate rate?
That seems contradictory to your first statement.

I think a pic would help us to understand what you’re talking about a little better. (y)

Sorry for any confusion. The 3pt. PTO had a plastic cover on it when I purchased it. Everything on the 3pt are looked as if it was never used. I used attachments with it. They lower at a moderate rate. I was checking things out and noticed that the 3pt speed control knob is frozen.

Had the same problem with my JD 5103. Ended up with twisted off screw. Fortunately it works ok at the previous setting.

@old and tired has stated the resolution for your issue. @kubby 2013 has stated an issue with being too aggressive in the process.

One of the issues with resolution is that the knob will turn both directions and reach a stop point. If you continue to try to turn past the stop point you will twist it off. So “big channel lock pliers” was suggested to only fit the diameter of the knob, not to apply excessive force in trying to turn the knob. I believe you said you already removed the knob so you can use the smaller shaft with some pin through the hole.

Just try to turn it in BOTH directions to get it moving, after using a good penetrating oil like PB Blaster, Kroil, … Then if it moves any in one direction, stop and spray it again and turn it back to the starting position and then back as far as gently moving it will take. Work it back and forth and spray it and walk away for an hour or so. Then repeat the process until it gets moving well in a full circle and you are home free! It may make that terrible crack sound when it breaks loose or if you apply too much force so just be careful.

Once you get it loose then you need to exercise the knob on a monthly basis and spray lubricant on it regularly to keep it loose.

You could remove the assembly but now you have an opening into the hydraulic system! If you decide you want to remove it, just clean around the area well and spray a good cleaning solution (break clean?) around the area well. Just be careful of paint and plastic reactions with the chemicals you use. After removing it, you need to cover the area with clean rags and make sure it stays protected from dust and water intrusion.

I personally would NOT remove it unless you just can’t get it loose in place.

Good luck.

That one is easy to fix.

Lower three point to full down.
Remove E clip #080 (Yellow) and pull valve straight out clean and replace.

If that doesn't work
Then remove 2 #110 screws (green)
Pull entire valve strait out.
Get it on a bench and clean and disassemble clean interior and reassemble.
Then replace entire valve assembly.
