Good Evening Gents.....I'll try to tap into the knowledge of you guys once again. Same tractor, new issue. I was bush hogging with no issues and went back in to my shop to refuel. When I tried to restart, I get an audible click but the engine won't turn over. With the help of my father in law we confirmed the battery, battery cables, starter/selonoid, and ignition were good with the multi meter. In my mind, this leaves me with two possibilities, a starter relay or limit switch (no idea on the location of these). Any ideas you folks have would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Thank you, but the PTO is disengaged. I've ordered a new PTO safety switch.

Is the audible click the starter solenoid? I.e., does the starter engage with the flywheel but does not turn? If yes it could be the starter contact closed by the solenoid of the starter brushes worn.

Do a load test on the battery or switch it out with a known "good battery".
You can have good voltage but not enough amps on a bad battery.

The same principal applies to the battery cables and their connections. It's possible to pass a continuity check, but still have the cables/connections bad enough to prohibit the large current draw needed to spin the starter. An area to pay close attention to is where the negative cable bolts to the frame beneath the battery tray. It only takes one leaking battery to corrode that connection....

It is best to measure the voltage between the starter terminal and the frame while trying to start. That covers all cables and connections.

Not sure if this is the same on your Tractor but on the L6060 there is an igniter wire pull apart connector on the bottom of the starter.

This connector can corrode inside and you will only hear a click when trying to start .

Thank you for the response, that's good to know. My issue was the PTO safety switch, but I'll definitely check that for future reference.

Gotta love chasing down electronic problems! :cautious:
Glad you got it running again though!

Thats interesteing.

I did not know the PTO switch could do what you described. (click, no turn over)

When mine sticks, (or my grandson flips it) there is no “click” from anything.

Just turn the key and, complete silence.

Maybe the 2501 system is “different” somehow?

That click is not from the starter but something else. My friends L1421 has a "run" (not "stop") solenoid at the injection pump that engages with a loud click when you turn the key even though it will not start with PTO engaged.

I get the same audible click if I try to start it with the PTO engaged. Keep in mind this tractor is also almost 24 years old, it may be different?

I absolutely HATE chasing down electrical problems but it sure is satisfying when you get it right (with the help of others on this forum)!
