Thanks for the reply.

I was planning on changing the oil pump but maybe I will go ahead and drop the pan too.

If your going that far I would check the inlet oil strainer/filter for sure.
Problem is you can't just drop the sump on these, you need to take the whole front differential and axle assembly off because the sump is bolted to the front differential and supports it. Some of the pan bolts are above the axle housing as well, so they can't come out without the front off. They are both heavy. The pan is heavy cast and I took my front axle off with the wheels still on. I had an excavator and endless chain to help but its awkward to slide off without proper supports and you could bend the 4 big bolts sliding it off, a mistake I made. You could take it apart piece by piece with wheels and axles off to make it lighter to handle.
Another option is to look with a cheap endoscope at the pan strainer through the oil filler hole. Take the oil tube off first. I am not sure this will work, it depends how close the strainer is to the bottom of the pan. I bought one of these to look at my bores and pistons by removing the injectors. I did ruin the scope trying to bend it around to look upward at the valves. These scopes are a bit overated unless you buy an expensive one. They would be good enough to work to see if your inlet oil strainer is blocked if its not too low to the pan. I couldnt be sure about this, maybe others comments may shed more light on that.

You could try back flush through the galleries when you get the oil pump off, but IMO it wouldn't clean the whole strainer properly anyway. It would just find an easy path through the blocked strainer.
I am not saying that is your oil pressure problem. The plug on the cam could be doing it or very worn bearings dont forget. In my life experience its usually not the simple things, but the smart way is to check the simple things first and eliminate along the way.

Mine was definately 3/4 blocked and causing the oil feed to lose oil pressure for sure.
I had to pull my engine apart anyway because I had a knock and needed to check the big end bearings.
Good luck, I hope you get it fixed. These tractors are built as solid as a Sherman Tank. They are old now, but if I had a brand new one of these, I wouldn't swap it for a modern day tractor.

Lastly I know I shouldnt need to mention this but just to be sure. The tractor is to be supported everywhere for safety if your taking the front off. I had chains holding it to the roof the rear wheels chained to the wall and blocks under it. With the front end floating, I am sure you know the danger.
If you need any more info just message me, I have few photos. The other posters comments are always helpful as well.
Cheers and good luck once more.

You’re right I’m not the original poster and I sort of hijacked this post. I looked through your post when you were working on your tractor however I did not see any write up on when you split it or maybe I just missed that.

The 4050 is basically the same as the 4500. I have both, one fwd the other 2wd. I think they just changed the name for years model- wise.

I didn’t have any trouble getting the front end off, the 2wd is way easier than the 4wd.

But the question I have is I’m trying to drop the oil pan without separating the engine from the transmission and the two aft/ back bolts that go horizontally on the oil pan are giving me an issue.

thanks for the help.

I was able to get the oil pan up down those two back bolts had to get backed out about 3/4 of an inch. I ended up just grinding a little bit on the clutch housing so that those bolt heads would slide back enough.
