Last fall I posted about my deck not locking out at the “top” setting. I messed with it a bunch following what was recommended, but nothing worked. I’ve had a lot going on since then and was able to get by without it locking up so I haven’t messed with it again until now.
I got it to lock up by manually pushing the lifer arms up, then turning the dial. But it won’t do that with the deck in place.
so I finally got into it.
The issue I’m seeing is that there is still too much play in the adjustment. What I did, was pull the adjustment screw out, take off the jam nut and re-assemble. Now it seems to work ok. I’m assuming that means something is worn or damaged. But as of now, it seems to work with no jam but, and the adjustment screw all the way down. I’m sure I can find a longer screw. I’m just not sure that’s the answer here. Has anyone had a similar issue with this?

Now that the mower deck is back on, it will lock out on “top”, but I have to be holding the lever in the up position for it to catch.

I am not sure, but I think the issue is the stop bolt and jam nut. With the jam nut removed the lift arm is prevented from lifting to the highest position. I believe the forward nut and bolt sets where the lift arm lever engages the link, and the bolt on the end stops it. There are others here who know much more than I do who will chime in to help.

N.Y,
Look at the other end of that rod. I bet the slot is stretched out or mounting pin worn. Set it too tight like that and the other end will distort where it connects to the lift arms.

Have a 2380 myself but have not had this issue. Hope you get the answer you seek. Good luck.

I think the answers above are telling you to replace the bolt and nut and whatever piece(s) the bolt presses against to see if that fixes the problem. You can at least take it apart and inspect the parts to see if there is damage.

I would recommend inspecting each and every piece of mower linkage to see if they are damaged, especially those involved with the lifting movement.

Have same and always had troubles with raising and lowering the mower deck. In fact, if I knew then when I bought the tractor (new), I would have not bought the mower deck and went with a finish mower. I hate mounting and unmounting that thing.

Having said that, I just finished a fuel pump/filter issue. While spending that much time under the tractor, I made use of the view and thoroughly inverstigated my mower deck and linkage.

I wire brushed everything and lubed it real well. I twisted the dial back and forth from 1 to Top until it was very loose. I also did same on mower deck before installing.
After installing the deck (again), I spent some time with the mower running (but cutter not engaged) and raised and lowered the deck and changed cutting heigth.

The cutting heigth now adjusts without effort. It works better than the day the tractor arrived!! I am not entirely sure "what I fixed" but I think it had been slightly out of line.

Thanks all. It’ll probably be fall before I get back into it at this point, but I do plan to dig into it and find out what the issue is.
