Hello All.
2022- MX5400-Gear Drive-
She won’t shift into forward or reverse when idling. When the ignition is on and not running it will work fine along with gear selector 1-4.
Anything I’’m missing?
Already checked-
Linkage not jambed
Seat safety switch seems to be working
Enough trans fluid
Tractor rolls, drive trane not stuck
Clutch depresses ok, proper amount of play
Trying to figure out if there’s something wrong electrically going on

I’m out of ideas. Even the road mechanic is stumped. Any insight would be appreciated. If I can’t figure it out I’ll have to haul 2-1/2 hours to a dealer. Desperately trying to avoid that. lol.

Thank much guys.
Tom

That is a purely a mechanical shuttle, no electric involvement.
If you can shift it when it's not running then you have a clutch or clutch pedal adjustment issue.

Thanks for the feedback Wolfman. If I determine clutch pedal travel is good, I assume the PTO ACORN NUT needs adjusting? Any words of caution on that? Just got the tractor a few months ago at 330 hours. Only used the PTO like 3 or 4 times. This shifting issue didn’t start until after I used the PTO recently

PTO ACORN NUT?????

Care to enlighten me on where this is?
And what it has to do with the shuttle of the tractor.

Has tractor been setting idle for any length of time? It's possible clutch plate is stuck to engine flywheel.

Start tractor & after engine reaches operating temperature block traction clutch pedal down. Let engine operate a few minutes in this fashion hoping if stuck clutch plate is the problem it comes free.

Thanks for the reply. I will start with that tomorrow when I get to the tractor

You're welcome
Well, got er popped loose. Didn’t seem stuck super tight. Thank guys for the help on this nursery school level problem.
I gotta say though, as a first time Kubota owner I’m surprised this happened after only sitting about 3 weeks. I used to let a Farmall Cub sit all winter in a shed and the clutch never stuck. I can only assume it’s a lot looser drive trane ??

I don't know if this is a Kubota thing, or if it's due to the use of new materials by all manufacturers. I never heard of it with 40's to 60's tractors (AC, Massey Ferguson, Ford).

Tractors aren't constructed with same materials as many yrs ago. I suggest when parking tractor for extended period of time to block clutch pedal down.

Sitting for 3 weeks is pretty quick. I’ve let my MX sit longer than that without issue. I’m sure that varies with climate.

My MX owners manuals state for extended storage to wedge a wood block between the clutch pedal to keep it depressed.
Some L series have a locking pin to keep the pedal depressed for the same season.

That’s what I’m going to start doing, for sure. My MX is at my cabin, so I don’t use it on the regular. Probably every 3rd weekend. I just hooked up a solar battery minder. Battery was getting lazy with minimal use. Guess I gotta get to the cabin every weekend and say the hec with home chores. Lol

I took this picture last year on a L series at the dealer to fab something similar to my MX.

Nice and clean looking. Funny how they went to the trouble to install a hold down on a L series and not the MX series. Got a piece of lath holding it in now. Guess I’ll paint it orange. Ha. Till I get the chance to fab one like this
