Just recently bought a Kubota z422 zero turn. No issues with the mower cuts great have about 15 hrs on it now. I was just wondering the deck height most ppl cut on. Im asking because to get the cut I like on both yards I cut, I have to have it set on 2. Which is fine I just don't like only having two lower options below that. I feel like that 2 setting im on should be more of 3 or 2.75. Just wondering what others cut on and what your thoughts are or what I could do Thanks.

depends on the grass, the terrain and the yards' owners

I prefer to cut higher and more often, isn't as hard on the mower and uses less fuel. I typically don't go below 3.75 except for the fall when I scalp it pretty good on 2 and let it go dormant.

Yeah I just feel like maybe from the factory it was set up where 2 should really be 3 if that make sense. There is noway I could cut on 3.75. The photo is a yard I cut on 2 it's not very low at all.

Z422 here as well…My “lawn” is not good quality grass…when it’s high after periods of rain, a 3.5 setting is good. Another part is all steep hill and usually dry and dusty and the grass doesn’t grow as long….its a dustbowl but it gets cut at 2.5ish. Part of the flatter area is lush grass because water drains down to there and there is more shade…I go to 4.5-5 depending on how long it is. Almost time here in central NH to get the mower out of the shed but still a ways from mowing…today I drop the snowblower off the BX AND remount the FEL. Plow comes off the Mule today too.

I have the 422 as well, hard to tell from the picture but my guess is that looks more like a 3” cut, which is the setting I use.. Have you tried different settings to compare the cuts ?

Yeah that's what im thinking if I was to put it on 3 in that yard it would barely cut anything. I just think maybe the deck was just set up a little high from the factory. Scared to make any type of adjustment on the deck because in my mind it would never be right again.

the numbers on the dial are just reference numbers. they don't equal inches, IOW, 2 is not 2", and 3.75 is not 3.75". That said the deck can sometimes be adjusted so that it will get close to the numbers being the actual height in inches, but that in itself is an exercise in your patience, trust me.

I understand that im just trying to see what everyone else is cutting on. Cause to get a good cut I have to set it on "2". Where I feel like everyone else is about to cut on "3" or a little less. Yeah im not trying to adjust anything with my OCD it would never be right haha.

in my experience, 2 on your mower is different than 2 on mine. If I put mine at 2 and try to mow, I'm scalping the yard. If I put my mom's on 2, the grass ends up at about 3" in length. That's why I mentioned that.

Trial and error. You want to mow as high as possible and still give you a good quality cut. Whatever works best for you is what you end up at.
