Anyone own a similar machine? I'm curious how steep of incline it can climb. I haven't accessed some my property with it yet because I'm not sure if it will climb back up the hill, it's fairly steep. It only has a 20/21hp diesel motor and weighs about 5500 pounds I believe.

Anyone have a mini excavator and have tested it capabilities climbing hills?

How steep? Just climbing or digging while on an incline? You won't know until you try, you can pull yourself up with the bucket, have you blade behind you, going down slide on the bucket, go straight up and down. Wear your seat belt and be careful.

I've found that mine (U-27) climbs reasonably well. I do think that the factory rubber tracks aren't that great and I wish that they were a bit longer. Don't get hung up on the limited horsepower, these machines run entirely on hydraulics and have plenty of power to pull you up a hill.

Motion's post above covers what you need to do.

1) straight up and down with the bucket always leading you
2) dozer blade behind you when climbing, and in front of you when descending if possible.
3) if digging on that hill, that's where you need to be careful on your positioning. Take smaller bites too.

I've been meaning to gauge the steepness, gotta be a minimum of 25 degree slope and probably more the first 75 feet or so. There will be no digging on the hill. It's simply a path to get down and back to another section of my property. My L4000, B2401 and RTV500 climb it ok, but gotta be throttled up.

I appreciate the tips. I remember when I first got my tractor, I was scared shitless to climb that hill. I'm used it now with my tractors. Just haven't had the U-27 long enough to learn its capabilities.

If it's really 25 degrees, that's not a problem at all.
