What did you do to or on your Kubota today?

Mowed down some tall goldenrod and junk with my 1975 L260 and 5' rotary mower....

    Two engine speed questions

Hokie, I will kick the rpm up a bit as you suggest. When doing PTO work I set the hand throttle and let the governor keep rpms where they should be - never felt the need to "stomp on it" as the governor does that for me...I'll give it a try next time

    Two engine speed questions

Hi Guys, I have owned and used old tractors for decades (Minneapolis Molines, Fords, Farmalls, etc., never a green one tho'), but my latest (1975 Kubota L260) is both my first Diesel and the first tractor I have ever owned with an accelerator pedal - imagine my surprise when I stepped on it...

    1st 50hr service on a 40yr old tractor (L225DT)

That is a great find! I'm jealous....

is my tractor now scrap metal?

Yay! I think I got it. (BTW I apologize for the tone of my last post, the frustration was getting to me) I shut the door to the shop and took a couple days off from thinking about the L260. Last night I dug out the manual and the parts diagrams and thought about it for a while and realized that...

is my tractor now scrap metal?

Yes, I did mark the original location of the pump and that is where I had it set. It is just that it sounds bad there. No, I cannot "just do what it says in the manual" because I have no flippin' idea what the manual is talking about. This thing was built 40 years ago, the manual is pretty...

is my tractor now scrap metal?

I just was in the shop. I figured I'd try rotating the pump a bit and listen for an effect on the engine sound. Easier said than done! Between the injector lines and the feed lines all tightly secured I could barely move the pump at all. I did put a bar behind it and managed to pry on it...

    That's a pretty good idea!

is my tractor now scrap metal?

The manual has me "spill time" it. To do this I must remove one of the delivery valves PPP holders from my freshly rebuilt and sealed injector pump, pull out a spring and delivery valve, attach a " spill pipe" ( whatever that is ) and rotate the engine while a helper actuates the feed valve all...

is my tractor now scrap metal?

Wolf- No smoke, idles fine, revs up fine, good power. It just sounds like it is hammering! If it were a gas engine I'd say the timing was set way too far in advance. Thing is it starts and runs great, just sounds like an unhealthy amount of pinging and hammering. This is not an exhaust noise...

is my tractor now scrap metal?

Hey, guys! Well I got the pump and injectors back from the $hop. I reinstalled everything lining the pump back up with the ledger mark on the engine case. I bled all the air out of the fuel lines, gave her 45 seconds of glow plug and hit the starter... Success!! I just worked her hard for...

is my tractor now scrap metal?

Yup, you are right, the steering box was toast on this L260 when I got it so I rebuilt it this past summer new bearings, seals steering tube and ball but. Steers beautifully now. I filled it with 1/2 gear oil 1/2 grease mixture...sort of a pudding consistency. I park it under cover now to keep...

is my tractor now scrap metal?

Steve, the fellow there who started working on in injectors and pumps in 1979 strongly encouraged me to bring in the injectors, too. I really like this old horse so I decided to invest the $$ needed to make it right. Fingers crossed that it ends up worth it....

is my tractor now scrap metal?

UPDATE The injector pump and injectors are at Atlantic Fuel Injector Service awaiting rebuild. They called and advised me that all parts are available and on order. Everything should come back to me in like new condition, but it will devastate a $1000 bill...OUCH!

is my tractor now scrap metal?

I pulled the pump off tonight. It doesn't appear to have a one-way master spline. It has a symmetrical spline with an alignment mark. It will be very difficult to see the marks when reassembling but she's apart now so I'll have to do it somehow. I'm going to bring the pump to the injector...
