    What ATF do you recommend?

    frozen backhoe pins

Pipe wrench was a good idea. Multiple Liquid Wrench applications over days and wouldn't budge with a sledgehammer on the wrench.

    frozen backhoe pins

WD-40 was a red herring. I applied Liquid Wrench liberally 4 days in a row, tapped, jiggled the outriggers and bucket. I assume ATF is automatic transmission fluid. What is ACE? Do you have a link to that study?

    frozen backhoe pins

You're right. I was focused on the pins moving and didn't note the flange deflection as I jacked. The pins are so frozen on the outboard flanges that they bent them in spite of the gusset plates. I was just in utter disbelief that the pressure of half a tank wouldn't push through the corrosion...

    frozen backhoe pins

I appreciate all the great ideas here. I ground off the ends of the retention pins to remove them and applied 10T porta power to push them out from the inside with very light pressure on the outriggers and boom in an attempt to eliminate all shear on the pins. Nothing. With 10T still applied, I...

    frozen backhoe pins

Hi, the saga continues with my L3240. I need to remove the backhoe to get to the rear transmission seal, but there's so much corrosion the pins are frozen. I've managed to free the pins' retention pins to try to rotate the pins themselves, but the pins aren't not budging. I've sprayed Liquid...

Ping sound and palpable pop on dipper after operating

After operating backhoe both last night and tonight, there was a ping sound coming from the backhoe after I turned it off. It sounded like a loud drip into a metallic drain pan or something - every 30secs or so. It recurred tonight and I was able to isolate it to the dipper. Placing my hand on...

    L3240 HST leak

Update 2: Worked backhoe for about an hour last night. This was my first time operating one, so I don't know what to look for, but all functions seemed to work great. Worked it a couple hours again tonight. Had to reposition on a slope a couple times, but moved fine in L. Raised bucket easily...

what do you weekend warriors use for tractor insurance?

OTT brain trust, may I call you, not gray matter, but 'orange matter?'😀 I use USAA for homeowner's and auto insurance. Until the past decade or so they were good, but have declined significantly IMHO. They referred me to Traveller's Tractor. The site says plans start at $300/yr for tractors and...

    L3240 free [searchable] Workshop Manual?

Thank you. I previously downloaded these SCANNED manuals, but they are not searchable and lower resolution, so sometimes not able to interpret detail in illustrations. I modified the title from 'digital' to searchable with the hope that it better reflects the request.

    L3240 free [searchable] Workshop Manual?

I found the scanned one, but difficult to read and can't search. Can anyone provide or point to free digital copies of the manuals for an L3240?

    L3240 HST leak

Update: Warmed it up and Mother Nature gave me some dry concrete to crawl under to find the leak. The photo with the wrench for dimension shows how much it leaked in about 10min. The leak appears from one or both of the two small bolts, but seems likely from something above that can't be seen...

Yes, private sale. Too excited to ignore the red flags.

    L3240 HST leak

Thank you for the quick response. I've been down w/bronchitis so no time to try this until today. Much more experienced seller backed it on tilt trailer, but was a struggle. Photos show leak dribbling down bottom of transmission case(?). Didn't drag myself out of sick bed to put down some...
