IF just putting a probe on a terminal caused it to start, I'd be investigating that terminal for looseness or corrosion. Same for the cable connected to it. I'd do that before bothering with any schematics.

Nope. Not even close to being fine. They just happen to be the best we have at the moment. That's a very different thing. Lithium batteries are not even remotely efficient, and they are horrible for the environment. We don't have a battery technology that is even CLOSE to making EVs viable...
