    M6040 strange starting noise

Cool. I should have read your post before I responded to @North Idaho Wolfman. I will give that a try.. The hard starting happens even at 70F.

    M6040 strange starting noise

This tractor has no way that I'm aware of to force the glow plugs on. I turn the key to the on position and if it thinks the glow plugs are required the indicator on the dash lights up. I had to park the tractor outside so that it would be cold enough to turn on the glow plugs. I get 12V at the...

    M6040 strange starting noise

OK, I'm back. Four new glow plugs but the problem is still here. Looks like injectors are next. It was suggested to me that before I pull injectors I should try a dose of Sea Foam. I might just try that because I have enough other projects on the go...

    M6040 strange starting noise

One glow plug reads 9.4k ohm, the others read 'open'. Out of curiosity, what made you suspect them? Just trying to improve my diagnostic skills.

Svl95-2s injection pump gear teeth angled wrong way.

If you have room to reach in with a piece of paper and a pencil, I've had success with that old trick when I couldn't get a decent picture.

    M6040 strange starting noise

I bought an M6040 a couple years ago. It needed some TLC but was in decent condition. Last summer it started making a loud "clack" when it was starting. When I start it, it starts but coughs and sputters. Throttle position doesn't change anything. Then it will start making a loud "clack", sound...

    Opinions on L3301

I'm looking for a backup tractor. I was hoping for 40+ hp, but there is a L3301 HST up for auction. The all knowing google has not been able to find much bad about this model, so I'm looking for informed opinions, good, bad or otherwise. And an estimate of value, in Canukistan Pesos.

    Block heater help

Never heard that before... not sure if I believe it. However, I normally unplug mine so I don't kill myself tripping on the extension cord.

    B6000 Glow Plug Thread Size?

Are you sure the new ones are the same? Longer threaded portion on the new ones?

What is this on the head cover?

Somebody that knows the proper expression! Sorry, but "the proof is in the pudding" is a pet peeve of mine. I check all my puddings and I have yet to find proof in any of them. Sorry for the side track... now back to our regularly scheduled discussion.

    B2401 Hydraulic Leak

Oil doesn't normally flow uphill... the fact that the cylinder is dirtier above the fitting than it is below suggest to me that it is not a leak. Wipe it down with a shop rag and carry on.

    B2401 Hydraulic Leak

Is it leaking from a hole in the hose or is it leaking at one of the fittings? I had a leak on my backhoe that was just an O-ring... easy fix and it only cost $0.25.

    Fuel starvation

They are "the first point to stop up" by design. Because they are easy to check and easy to clean. If it were the problem, bypassing it will only move the problem to somewhere less easily serviced.

    Diesel fuel treatment

Lots of people (myself included) use Power Service Diesel Fuel Supplement +Cetane Boost (white bottle) when it gets cold. Was -37C here last week... I don't like taking chances.
