    L6060 turbo ?

The purpose it to let the turbo cool down so the oil doesn't coke inside the journals. If it never gets hot its not an issue; the oil wont coke.

    Unspecified Security Risk

I keep getting a popup that says "This page has an unspecified security risk, do you want to continue?" And then you have to hit yes or no about 20 times to get it to go away.

Machines with turbos- do you let them idle before shutting down

BAP, sage advice. However please consider the very real condition that the owners manual is there to also protect them legally and may not be based on any reality other than a previous claim lost by them that resulted in a payout to a customer. Same reason your lawnmower says "do not stick...

Machines with turbos- do you let them idle before shutting down

Does anyone have a service manual for a turbo tractor that can tell us what the intake manifold pressure at idle is? We can use this to establish a comparison. If you post pls post model and intake pressure, should be in inHG or mmHG. Thanks

Machines with turbos- do you let them idle before shutting down

Jerry, 1. q= 0.0638 psi. Mine was a little more conservative and is possibly due to ref. So lets use your number: .0638psi. This has to be multiplied by the area of the intake duct. Remember I said lets use a 3inch (7.068sqin) duct. That gives us using your number .45 psi in the intake. Im...

Machines with turbos- do you let them idle before shutting down

BAP, I'm not saying it cant happen and have even posted in concurrence with Jerry that it is theoretically possible. His statement of the phenomenon is accurate. I have not once said that the manufacturers suggestion not be heeded by anyone. However there's a lot of manufacturer suggestions that...

Machines with turbos- do you let them idle before shutting down

Kenny, I realize the manual says that. no argument form me that it does. However the physics doesn't work. In the case you've listed you load the machine on the trailer backwards, implying that there's a direct airflow into the exhaust. The same math and assumptions apply except with less...

Machines with turbos- do you let them idle before shutting down

Jerry, I think what you've stated is absolutely true, theoretically I wholeheartedly agree that theoretically it is possible. However I think I've showed mathematically that there simply isn't enough pressure at the turbo to make it spin. Even if we ignore all of the real things that are going...

Machines with turbos- do you let them idle before shutting down

why yes you have. Its the PSI over the area of object the force is being applied to. Our example 3in intake tube is considerably smaller than the aircraft engine. In a 5mph wind, if you had a 1sq foot plywood shield it wouldn't be that much of an effort (i can do the math if youd like) but a...

Machines with turbos- do you let them idle before shutting down

Now lets apply some basic reality to the situation to get some numbers and at least some Kentucky windage of the possibility of pressure in the intake rising enough when being towed to actually make a difference at the turbo. My argument is that there is NO pressure increase at the turbo under...

    Going crazy over emissions!!

L6060 owner with DPF and 270hrs. No issues. I'm not sure why people have issue with emissions controlled tractors. Semis have DPF and millions and millions of miles on them without issue. Are there failures out there? Sure, but you have the same failures of any complex electronically...

    Everything Attachments

EA makes great stuff. Not the cheapest, but you get what your paying for. I have compared my EA wicked grapple to other folks grapples in my area and the quality is way above on my EA. Thicker steel, better build, tighter tolerances. The quality is superior and the price is incremental.

Machines with turbos- do you let them idle before shutting down

Jerry, I take no offense by your post and look forward to a rebuttal; I didn't take it wrong or offensive. Its discussion, and discussion with math is even better. I've been a little slow in the thought process: Broke my ankle last sun and had surgery weds to pin all the pieces back in the...
