Finally finished adapting the potato plow to work with either tractor. Took to a buddy’s shop for the welding. Certainly not cost efficient compared to just using the bushings that I’ve been using, but it will work with both machines and pats as well as QH20 on the big girl…and that was the goal. It was pretty stout as purchased but it definitely added some heft/weight. I wanted to keep the color same as the original purchase but I had some orange paint in cabinet.

Looks nice, but for the "agriculturally challenged", what did you add/do?

Did you add that vertical piece?

Maybe some of WIP pics would help?…key point is originally it was only cat 1 and not compatible with my QH. So it’s been modified to be cat 2. If my measurements and thinking juice were applied correctly, it should doc to my QH20. I hope to have a fitting and trial in the field in a couple weeks.

Thanks. Yeah sorry I did not explain better…this may be very sacreligesous for some 😉, but it is used in place of a backhoe…it doesn’t mean I love the backhoe any less or that it is not still important.

Before it attached like first pic (no QH just used a simple bushing over the pins, but the QH needed to be removed). The Goal is the modified version docs with the QH similar to the bedder in second pic which also has been adjusted to function with the QH. The jist is I have a QH that is functional, but it’s fixed, and not ver flexible and I either needed to come to terms with adding a pats instead (to accommodate different width of implements) and cutting my PTO shafts, or I needed to modify my bedder and plow. Damned if I do, damned if I don’t. If I were to do over I would not have bought the QH and just gone with pats.

If this doesn’t work, the. I may need you to coach me with my verbiage in a future post. If this fails I don’t think I would be able to assemble an appropriate post/comment without some mentorship and supervision.

I had to look up what a "pats" is, but it looks to me like it will work.

I will be 'at the ready' for any verbiage needed.....I was practicing my "foul mouthed rants" this weekend in the shop....LOL

You should have heard the tirade I went on looking for my glasses for 20 minutes......

My wife finally came down stairs and firmly/loudly said "Quiet down!!!!.....They're on your fu@@ing head for Gods sake!!!!"

I was so proud that after 30+ years, I'm finally "rubbing off" on her.(a little):p

It fits…it attaches just the same as my back blade which is I what I made template / pattern from.

There are no outstanding requests for language coaching.

These sorts of projects are among my favorites. Great upgrade for sure! (y)

I picked up a pair of D-rings the other day to add to the M1078 so will spend the morning finishing up the receiver so that I can get to work on the additional driveway hauling dirt from A to B.

It's not the time, but the reward. Given the task, your reward will always be behind you.

Nice.

You got that right…it’s a lot easier to put the plow on/off the QH, than is was to take the QH off and put plow on/off and the. Put the QH back on.

A bit of an old thread @GrumpyFarmer but still relevant. I have a question about the top pin on that potato plow. Is it the 1" CAT 2 pin that EA uses or are you using a bushing on that pin? The QH10, QH15, QH16 and QH20 all use the 1-1/4" top pin (CAT 3) so just wondering. I ordered a bunch of CAT 3 to CAT 2 top bin reducers so that every implement is QH10 and QH20 compatible. Obviously, the QH10 connects via CAT 1 lower pins, and the QH20 via CAT 3 lower pins so CAT 2 implements need 1-1/8" to 1-7/16" bushings.

I was going to order a QH20 when I bought the M6060 since it's CAT 2 on the tractor side so no bushings, but there was a QH15 at the dealer in Sheridan, WY at a great price so I figured what the heck. But now I wish I'd opted for the QH20 from the get go. I'm more than good with the QH10 on the MX, but before long I'll have my implements set up so that many can be on either QH. The big Buhler/Farm King rear blade will only be QH20 compatible which is fine since it's way too big for the MX.

A bit in the weeds but interesting to me. :)

I don’t think too far in the weeds…you have not asked the for the material spec sheet of the pins yet😉. Personally I fester over stuff like that and I want the implement to set correct - too much slop is an accident waiting to happen.

I honestly don’t remember to give a de facto answer. I believe it is the standard pin from EA, but I’d prefer to measure it to be certain. (It’s at the other place and I dont have a trip planed - if it’s important may need to bump me again in April) But I dont think I ever changed anything with the top pin. And I say that be because as I recall, making the lower pins larger which I effectively did changed how the top link sets in the hook, does that make sense? (I went to a bigger pin on the bottom which effectively lifted the center of the top pin up, just a little.) Now you got me questioning myself questioning myself…so I wonder why I wouldn’t have put a bushing on….ill have to check to answer you factually. (I’m pretty sure it’s not a cat 3 bushing though)

Here's the LP SB1574 snow blower connected to the MX via the QH10. I run a CAT 3 (1-1/4") bushing on the CAT 1 (3/4") pin. I should swap out the pin for a 3/4" bolt and nut the way EA does on their implements and run it through the bushing and never have to mess with it again. I only pick up the snow blower using the MX and QH10 so no need to have a removable pin.

Seeing your potato plow on the QH20 got me thinking about that top pin since EA uses a CAT 2 top pin on the CAT 2/CAT 1 implements. As I mentioned, the QH10, QH15 and QH20 all have CAT 3 hooks so ideally should interface with a CAT 3 pin.

The wonderful world of tractors, implements and interfaces. :)

That picture is helping my memory…however I may be mixing up implements. Now I think I tried the bushing but at that time I did not have the top tilt and that extra girth combined with the angle the QH was at gave a little hiccup (between bottom lip and top hook spread and increase with the pin sizes) in attaching so I think I may have removed the bushing…at least I did on one of those EA implements to make it settle a little easier and I sort of think it was the plow because I think I had to undo the bolt / nut. So on the plow I think I am not using a cat 3 bushing. But I am still not sure. Yes I understand that a lot of text to add no value.

Not trying to beleaguer the point, but the center to center vertical dimension between the lift arm pins and top link pins is standard at 14-7/8" regardless of configuration, so with the same CAT 3 top pin, you should be able to pick up an implement that's CAT 1/CAT 2 such as an EA box blade or land leveler using a QH10 or QH20. The QH20 would need bushings on the CAT 2 pins to convert them to CAT 3, and the top pin would need a bushing to convert from CAT 2 to CAT 3. Easy peasy! :giggle:

EA don't design their implements around Land Pride QHs but it doesn't take much to have a quick and easy on/off setup for multiple QHs. Life is better that way I've found.

I reference that product spec drawing whenever I buy an implement. Do you know what that drawing is missing? (Hint: If not attached different implements already with the QH20, I believe you will find out soon enough)

It may take a trial and error or two to set your implement, but then you can forget after the marriage.

Is it shown in the later version that includes the QH16?

No it’s missing:
1. Tolerancing
2. Stack up tolerance of what you plan to attach (yes I understand they don’t know that, but for this thread and your use it is relevant…EA has some tolerance that is relevant.
3. There are no datum points, and it’s not a machined part either, and finally where will/or should the weight of the implant be carried? This is the one that caused me the trial and error that I mentioned above.

What matters to us the user, is the comp, not just the QH or just the implement, it’s the marriage and the tolerance stacks are not known on the drawing. It’s not a drawing error, but it is relevant to these…the dimensions are drawn to a center pitch (DNT - but no real absolute datum points) and the weight of the implement is not carried to the center point dimension in space. It’s carried to the lowest point of the pins that contact first.

Anyway somewhere between accuracy of the QH and accuracy of the EA there was a ever so slight 1/8 to 1/4”ish gap, and I believe that maybe is what made me fiddle with bushings and best fit.

Bushings are cheap…trial and error…easy peasy. 👍

Once I have some bushings come in I'll let you know how well the QH20 marries up with the EA box blade, EA land leveler and Buhler/Farm-King rear blade. (y)
