I got the EA land leveler off the M6060 this afternoon along with the QH15 and both top-n-tilt cylinders. I installed the OEM top and side links and got the Buhler/Farm King 3-way hydraulic blade attached, and this is where it will stay for the rest of the winter. I made a couple of passes down the new driveway and common driveway and all is good. Even the swap over went well so something is obviously wrong.

I'm going to remove the pins in the telescoping stabilizers and swing the lower links all the way to the left side of the tractor (while still clearing the tire). I want to see if this will help when pushing the wall of snow that builds up on the outer edge of the lower driveway over the edge of the driveway to provide room for more snow.

Yeah, we've easily had more than a foot of snow fall in the last 10 days or so. There was a big melt off about a week ago and then more. This should be the last winter that the tractors have to sit outside. It's not ideal but that's how it has to be for the moment.

Down at the habitat project and broadcast seeded a 1 acre project started this spring. Not my seeder but it is a Kubota!

Seeding went well with snow on the ground and a light dusting of snow last night. Perfect conditions for broadcast seeding native species.

The seeder is interesting is that it is modified from using a 3 point and pto to a dedicated gas engine. The seeder is a pendulum type and was controlled by a push button in the cab.

Including a list of the seeds in the mix. We put down about 4 1/2 lbs of seed.

Interesting Ken. I wonder how many varieties will actually germinate. It will be fun to see what varieties do make it, with so many different ones applied.

Are you feeding the birds? Seems like a waste to put down seed this time of the year. Birds love finding that. Spring time just before everything comes out of dormancy is a much better time but each there own.

Nope not feeding the birds. Frost seeding native species is a well established practice. Timing is important, snow on the ground with snow in the forecast.

The vast majority of seed eating, ground feeding birds have already since migrated here in central Wisconsin.

One of the great benefits to "frost" seeding is something called stratification . This physical breaking up of the seed hull thru multiple frost/freeze cycles durning the winter and early spring enhances the seeds ability to germinate.

Frost seeding also allows the seed to get better soil contact in the spring due to the process of the melting snow, thawing of the ground. Due to the specific site conditions, drilling the seed with a native seed grain drill was not possible.

I used the BX last week to clear some wet, sloppy snow, and Tuesday I noticed the RF tire was flat, again. Took it off and took it to the tire shop, picked it up yesterday and put it back on, which was SO EASY since I installed studs in the hub. Slipped it on, started the lug nuts and ran them up with the impact, no more screwing around with those stupid wheel bolts.
Not sure what the deal is with the RF tire, it has gone flat five times in the last few years, and it's not the rim or tire because I swapped the left one over to the the right side a couple of years ago. I forgot to ask what they found this time, but they did put a new tube in it.

I had both front tires on my BX go flat within the first year. I had the local dealer put tubes in them and never had another issue during the 5 years that I owned it.

Timing is important, that’s why frost seeding is usually done in the spring, not fall/early winter. I’ve done frost seeding before, actually many times when farming. Never would do it this time of the year because you loose too much seed.

Frost seeding/planting (for grasses) window opens after soil drops below 50 degrees and that window for most northern areas starts in December and runs through Feb/March. Proper preparation is what prevents the seeds from washing out. There may be some loss, but it’s very common this approach for grasslands and other wildlife habitats.

I crawled under my L5030 today to change the hydraulic oil, and saw this ...

IMG_20251205_134343018.jpg

Looked like a drop of hydraulic fluid ... I wiped it off and pushed the pin up, and got another drop, I took the plug out, and nothing was in there ... Not quite sure what to make of it, not gonna panic over two drops of fluid, but I don't think it should be in the clutch housing ... It's cleaned off now, I'll try to remember to keep an eye on it ...

IMG_20251205_135117655.jpg

Then I proceeded to drain the hydraulic fluid ... Was confused on just where the front plug was ... The owners manual wasn't very clear ...

IMG_20251205_174129784~2.jpg

This is about all I could find in that general area that kinda looked like a drain plug, so ... I got a wrench!

IMG_20251205_140712326~2.jpg

While I did get some fluid out of it, this is what came out ... Just didn't seem right ...

IMG_20251205_140819423.jpg

So I went inside and got the WSM out, and found this slightly better picture ...

IMG_20251205_174317672~2.jpg

Which kinda looked like this on my tractor ...

IMG_20251205_141009066~2.jpg

It didn't look like it had ever been taken out before, and didn't really look like a "drain plug" to me ... But I had a 10mm Allen wrench, and it had a very sharp "crack" when it finally broke loose! And then lots of hydraulic fluid came out!
(I took the picture after I had wiggled my 10 mm up into it, it was very tight with the paint in it!) All refilled now!

Then I drained the coolant, and tried to use my Schwaben cooling system tool, unfortunately non of the adapters were small enough, I tried to use the tapered funnel looking one, but couldn't get it to seal, the radiator opening is tiny! This tractor with the cab heater was the reason I bought it. ... I did use it a few weeks ago successfully on my pickup ...

IMG_20251205_151915797.jpg

So I did it the old fashioned way ... While the drain plug was still out, dump a little water in, once that drained out, closed it up, filled with water, and took it for a bumpy ride out back, once it got up to temperature, and was blowing HOT air out the vents, I got back in the barn, drained that, then added a gallon of 9% vinegar, and a gallon of 5% vinegar, ran that up to temperature, let it sit for 30 minutes, then drained it, dumped some more water through before closing the drain, then filled it with water, ran that up to temperature, drained it, dumped in some water while drain was still open then some coolant, then plugged it up, sucked out the remaining water that I had previously rinsed the overflow tank with, filled everything up with coolant, took it for a ride up to temperature ... All set now, will check levels in the morning ...

IMG_20251205_171412684.jpg

I have new hoses for it, but these seem flexible and no soft spots ... So I left then alone.

I'm expecting packages from FedEx and UPS this evening so decided to head out and make sure the driveways were clear. The FedEx driver showed up as I was finishing up but still waiting on UPS. It's getting slick out so hopefully they show up sooner than later.

I had an MX6000HST for a little over a year, and now the MX6000HSTC for four years and I can't imagine anyone being disappointed with this model. It's such a great tractor for what I need and I'd buy it again without a shadow of a doubt.

Yesterday when I stopped by my Massey Ferguson dealer (who I really like!) I picked up the three point set of forks I had ordered, there is a local small shop that mostly makes hay spears, but also made my SSQA forks for my SCUT ... I could have gotten them cheaper elsewhere, and made who knows where, these were $1400.

I also got a couple of bushings for the top link pin to bump it up from cat 1 to 2, then 3 (they said it had all the pins I'd need to hook it up) ... Didn't really pay attention when they loaded it in my pickup, was just amazed at how heavy duty it was built!

When I got home, I discovered that while it had the lower pins, it didn't have the top one, I went in the barn and grabbed one, so I could put the bushings on, and get them out of my pocket, so I wouldn't loose them!

Top pin was very loose, but a cat 2 fit good ... Then I noticed the lower pins were kinda big ... Yup, cat 2, got my tape measure, and it was set up for a cat 2 tractor!

While I "could" make it work as I have cat 2 lower arms, and my hydraulic top link is actually cat 2 to get the length I needed, which I added bushings to fit my cat 1 quick hitch I bought from him, and asked him a couple of times if these would be cat 1 quick hitch compatible? He said yes ... So I called him, he apologized and said he would make it right, I offered to pay to have the top link attachment lowered, then all we needed to do was point the lower pins in, instead of out, he said no, that it was his mistake, he didn't tell the guy what I needed, that he would take care of it ...

That's the whole point of having a quick hitch, so I can swap stuff around ... I didn't want to have to remove the quick hitch, to then put the HEAVY forks on, then reattach the quick hitch to use the mower or rear blade ... So I never even took it off my truck, and dropped it back off!

I'm guessing how hard I had to shove it the last little bit to get in to close my tailgate on the plastic bed liner, it's over 800 Lbs! I'll weigh it when I get it back.

I was hoping to use it today to water my trees ... I've probably in reality been pushing the limits on my little SCUT ... But I'll have to use it again today once it warms up ...

I put 50 gallons in the front tote, and 150 gallons in the back one ... It's a very big load ... I figure with the Kubota I can fill the one 275 gallon tote ... It will be much easier on me, the pump, and my little tractor ... Pump pumps up to 158 gallons a MINUTE!

Swapped out my mismatched tires on the RTV. It had two worksite tires and two bar style. The worksite tires were on the front and I found they liked to wander. The steering feels much better now.

Not too much to report…we took a lazy route yesterday to get up to Lake. Snow is mostly gone but we got a fresh dusting this morning. Last bit of snow is trying to decide it’s coming off the roof or not. Only thing used the machine for is to raise the antennae so the spousal unit can watch football this evening.

No drama brush pile burn. I figured I'd take advantage of the snow cover and very light wind today.

The mini sure makes this job easy.

Bloody UPS left a bunch of stuff for me and my neighbor at the bottom of the common driveway early this morning. I was out clearing the driveway at 10pm last night since UPS tracking said that they'd be delivering, but then I got a message around 10.30pm to inform me that a new delivery date would be scheduled. I got up at 5.45am today to clear off more snow and saw an email notifying me that my two packages were "left at the security gate" at 5.30am. What a joke! We don't have a security gate. The driver dumped three boxes for my neighbor and two boxes for me down by the road below.

Luckily they were still there when I walked down at 6.00am. I had more than $500 worth of stuff in two boxes and fortunately no one drove past and grabbed them.

After moving my neighbors boxes to a safer location and carrying my stuff back to the house, I sent him text to to tell him that his desk, sofa bed and other boxes were tucked behind a tree on the other side of the driveway. I started up the MX, went in to make another cup of coffee, then after 10 minutes came out and set about taking care of more snow removal.

The best part is really that the picture they take of the parcels thrown in the country side as "proof of delivery" is actually proof of non-delivery 😅
