I lost the fuel cap on my L3901 - dont ask.

After covering the filler with some aluminum foil i called 3 different local dealers looking for one. Nobody had one in stock and the cheapest price was $4 more than Messicks. Messicks shows 10 in stock, shippimg is $16, and Fedex will have it on my doorstep arkund noon tomorrow.

And in case you are wondering that senior moment and rediculously overpriced plastic cap just cost me $66 :devilish:

$66 USD !! If I lost a fuel cap up here in Canduh it would be cheaper to sell tractor 😝. Some of those moments due end up costing us. Like my neighbour who shut his side door on tractor with his chain hanging halfway out. Chain won

I see these price comparisons all the time so it made me wonder about income differences.
According to DDG:
The medium income levels in Canada are lower than the United States but the poverty level is also lower.
I guess you Canuks are much better money managers than we are.

I cant answer because I have no clue. All I know is fuel was sloshing out the top of the filler just minutes after refueling and the cap is nowhere to be found. ...
You will find it the day after Fedex delivers the new cap. ;)

p.s.: at that price I would put a little chain on it.
p.p.s: thank you very much for reminding me to do that on my fuel cap. Would prefer not having to get a new loan on the house 🤣

But you can't win. If you would not have ordered the new cap you will never find the old cap. Murphys law ...

The best way to find your old cap is by doing these 2 things.

1: Buy a new cap.
2: Stop looking for the old one.

After doing these 2 things you will find your old cap. :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

Maybe…I would chalk that up to cost of ownership, and sure $66 bucks not free, but it’s an ounce of prevention to something that doesn’t fit properly or worse if an agri-engineered cover came off in use and allowed debris into the tank. At some point $66 doesn’t seem donegal bad compared to risk/potential failure point alternative.

Hate that for you, TOH. But, as others have said, it's great that you found one! After a while, you'll forget the aggravation and expense. Our minds are good like that!

I bought a cap from ebay

I was making a fueling set up for my L2501 and would assume they take the same cap.
I will have to see if I can get a picture from my phone. I made a hole in one I got from ebay and it fit and looks like a pretty good clone for a fraction of what you paid.
I wanted a sacrificial one as I wanted to drill a hole in it to be able to put the nozzle in while I hand pumped the fuel.

End of the story is I took a gas gauge float and assembled all this so as I pump slowly the float rises and lets me know when to stop.
Might not work fast enough for an electric pump but works for my hand pump.

I am getting to that point lately and I have tried to go slower and not rush.
I left a hatchet in the woods recently but luckily it had a yellow handle and showed up.

Bill

Yesterday morning I was assembling this new ham antenna from Mosley and near the end of assembly I couldn't find one of the plastic end caps that keeps the rain out of the aluminum elements. It would be far less expensive to replace than a fuel cap but then I remembered helpful barn cat Tom the orange tomcat was inspecting the boxes before I started. I checked where he had settled in a shady spot to watch and found my missing end cap :)

"Critters" are great at making things disappear and they are attracted to the strangest things. I had a Siamese cat who loved to steel precision screwdrivers and he would line them up neatly next to his cat bed every night. I would have loved to speak cat to understand his fascination with them and why he carefully lined them up at night.

And Dan, if you find your original cap then you will sleep better at night knowing that you have a handy spare fuel cap just in case :)

When I fuel the tractor, I put the fuel cap on the seat, so if I forget to put it back on, it will be mighty uncomfortable to sit on it. Ever since I started doing this, I haven't misplaced the fuel cap.

Me too, although I did get a round diesel fuel stain on my pants once.

Well, if you do find it, it will be in the last place you looked.

I had to replace the cap on my B2410 after nearly 20 years. It split and fuel was splashing out, and could let water in, so bought a replacement. At least if you do find the old one, put it in a rememberable spot for the day your cap splits.
